Liked the vid, Welten. Less dramatic music and editing the better. Lets the game/sim advertise itself better if you ask me.

The true sounds do a lot to giving that sense of realism that you don't get with that awful drummy choir hollywood music over the top that so many vids seem to want to use to add a cinematic quality. Less, in these cases and in my opinion, is more!

Ty! I agree with you... prefer simplicity (especially if you wanna know how a sim feels) I do sometimes cut out some stuff though if nothing happens or an approach takes too long :)

This time it was all about getting some quick impression for those who have a slow connection to download the module but can't wait to have a peak :D

Should be high priority because, as is, it doesn't seem realistic.

This. But, its the very first try. We've got a loongggg way to Arma 2.

Well, Glowing Amraam, your vids are pretty special so I make an exception when it comes to those!

I think some get it right, it's noone in particular I'm thinking about. It's probably a more general observation on films/TV etc to be honest..Big boomy sound effects and loud crashing big orchestral music, it always seems to get in the way, for me.

I always have an example of the film The Third Man in mind, or Tarkovsky's Stalker. The minimal use of sound in the latter and the subtle changes in the tone of music in The Third Man add so much to a scene, especially when the music cuts out and you're left with the 'grit' or whetever you want to call it of the scene where the atmosphere works because you are left with the true sounds that are present, or implied.

If you haven't scene it (pun intended, somewhat cautiously...) then do watch it.

But yeh, there is a distinction and I know what you're saying!

Well, truth is, if you want to reach a bigger audience and to attract more potential customers, you cant just have a video with no music and regular gameplay, as this would not be called a Trailer, this would be a "gameplay video". And yes, gameplay videos are a must, but this is not used to promote a product for the masses.

If you know the difference between the 2, then I can support your opinion. ;)

But again, not to derail the topic, this is just MY opinion on the matter. To each his own I guess!

Bring on the gameplay vids! :D

I really like controlling tanks in DCS! So far it's been a blast. Being able to finally sort out those idiot AI bridge crossings will be a big relief in the future

I'm still kind of in dis-belief this is actually happening. I don't think it's sunk in yet. We have ground and air warfare together in a simulation! yaaaay

This is a video of my first battle. Simple mission. I'm M1A1 vs 2 x T-55 Tanks.

Here is a very basic hands on of how I generally use the Command Map when playing. Nothing fancy here and no voice over. Once CA is near final, I will do a very detailed Producer's Note.

Some items to keep in mind about CA:

1- CA is NOT intended to be a study level simulation of ground combat. It is meant to have a very shallow learning curve. Later on, I would expect to see study-level simulations of individual units.

2- This is still very much an early beta. As such, there are of course many bugs, missing items, and much tuning to be done.

3- For larger feature items that are out of scope, it's my hope that there will be a CA 2.0.

4- Myself and the team are carefully reading feedback and this will effect changes to the final CA version.

Thanks

Nice video! Can hardly wait for "study level" ground force modules.

A couple of very basic gunnery video examples. One for NATO tanks and one for IFVs.

More detailed videos with voice over will be made once CA is near or at final code. Too many things may change in the meantime to make full producer's notes.

For tanks, it is best to first lock the tank (Enter) to find range. Once range is known, use the GAS sight indications to adjust elevation to match target range. With a little practice and knowing sight picture and different ranges, it is rather easy to place rounds on target with the first or second shot.

For ATGMs, you can engage both locked and unlocked targets.

As indicated multiple times, Combined Arms is NOT intended to be a study-level simulation or armor warfare. It is a game with an intended very shallow learning curve. This will not change in CA 1.0.

In the video, tank does not move! But use sound (TankEngine and TankMove). Will be correctly if the tank (hold) and use just sound (Tank Engine) ;)

Just do not be offended!
