A-10s over Kosovo is the only other Hog specific book out there.

Others well worth reading are Strike Eagles in the Gulf War, Joint Force Harrier, A Nightmare's Prayer, Apache and Hellfire. Also Firestrike 7/9 is an excellent book from a JTAC's perspective in Afghanistan.

You can't seem to get that one in the US for some reason.

EDIT: I had to dig into it again. Found 1 in Australia but also found one in the UK with shipping to the US ($12.00 for a paperback but at least it's new).

Thanks for the reminder Eddie.

I'm not knocking Ed Macy's book, I'm just really curious what it is that makes Apache such a must read.

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

Chickenhawk, just read it. As for Apache, well, search for the battle of Jugroom Fort, or L/Cpl Matthew Ford if you want to know. (That will kinda spoil the book thoigh..)

Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

Thanks, Jona. I looked up Matthew Ford and wow. I've heard of the account, and reading it now still gives me chills. What they did to retrieve his body is beyond extraordinary. Having said that, it appears this book focused on one mission so I'll pass. I've read a few of this type of book and the author wander off all over the place before getting to the actual meat which usually is only big enough to fill a chapter.

I want something like Pak Six which is extremely well written and focused on the entire time he was there and has enough of the little details about the plane that you wouldn't otherwise know about. I'm assuming Chickenhawk is the same way?

The more the merrier.

By the way Rudel was acting as a consultant for the creation of A-10 :P

Another great read is "The Hot Sky of Afghanistan" by Viktor Markovsky, about pilots duty during Soviet war in Afghanistan.

Lots of details about actual usage of Su-25 and MiG-23/27 under extreme conditions, you don't find it anywhere else.

Pity, but I doubt it was translated into English, this is the best option I found: http://www.aviapress.com/viewonekit.htm?OTH-040

If you can read between the lines that book gives you lot's of info about being a good attack helicopter pilot. There's also some descriptions about actual tactics used but it's not very detailed as you can guess. Apache and Hellfire are some of the few books that tell you something about what happens in the cockpit and in the mind of the pilot (thought processes) instead of just history and experiences.
