LordLobs Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Will this be resolved before patch 1.2.2? It's currently impossible to progress in the campaign because of this bug :( Anyways, great job on patch 1.2.1, fps is better than in 1.2.0 for me and the annoying mouse bug has been fixed :D
ARM505 Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 (edited) Well, I just played again and it's back - so for some reason it only worked that one time - weird! And yet another edit: Sometimes it does manage to work, but it's very rare - so far only twice in total. Edited October 9, 2012 by ARM505
Simas Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Yep, I tried P-51D training missions and was surprised when I quit and it didn't crash. But then for other missions it's an instant crash. Even for replays.
ophiuchus Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 I just downloaded the 6288 update, and tried to play P-51 challenge. First one went fine, but I crashed during take off. Well, I thought, since the summary screen has appeared, there's nothing to worry about, let's try again... So I tried, and performed succesfull takeoff. But at escaping to menu, after progress bar reached 95%, guess what happened? ;)
Bullitt Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Same here. I did the new intercept mission for the P-51 and after getting hosed and killed it worked like advertised and returned me to the summery screen and even logged my death. So I decided to go back for a little warthog action and after an awesome mission it crashed again upon exit.
ddahlstrom Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Me Too Guess I'll chime in too. On Windows 8 (RTM) I am having the same crash issue. I was running 1.2.0 fine on Windows 8, but 1.2.1 clearly has a problem. Like others there have been a couple rare occasions that it worked (I think they both happened immediately after an online update was done), but then it starts crashing again on the very next run. I submitted a ticket about a week ago and haven't had any responses yet. Hopefully there's a solution by the time Win8 goes retail.
ARM505 Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 (edited) OK - last comment for me (I hope) because I've found a workaround that's gone 10 for 10 so far. Just do a couple of alt-tabs back and forth while the the post mission loading bar is showing loading is in progress. While alt-tabbing, DCS keeps trying to maximise, just alt-tab again, eventually you end up at the debrief screen. Worked every time for me so far out of ten or so tries. Could be total statistical chance of course, but anyway.... Edit: FFS, there it goes again. crashing! Dammit.... Sorry :) And yet again: Hmmmm, still having a lot of success with this method. Edited October 10, 2012 by ARM505
ophiuchus Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 Unfortunatelly AltTab trick didn't work in my case ;) Oh well ;d We wait.
Stanomatic Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 Windows 8 (RTM) Version 1.2.0 Stock video drivers = No crash Windows 8 (RTM) Version 1.2.1 / with update AMD 12.8 = Crash AMD 12.9 beta = Crash I can't go to stock drivers due to other video editing software won't launch. I know early adopters pay the price but I hope ED will fix in the next update. Please! Stan
Bullitt Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 I don't think Video cards or their drivers are the issue here. I'm rocking an Nvidia and updated to the latest driver that came out yesterday and it was still a no go on this issue. For some reason Windows 8 and DCS don't want to play nice anymore but I really do hope ED gets on this one stat especially with the Win 8 Launch right around the corner. Prior to 1.2.1 it hasn't been an issue at all and I've been using the Win 8 beta since it was first publicly released many months ago.

ophiuchus Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Since I can't find any thread dedicated to bug reporting, I'll post my just here. Sim keeps crashing everytime I try to exit almost any mission, and this prevents me from progressing in any campaign. Here's part of one of logs created after such crash: 00215.995 ALERT DXRENDERER: Error: Can't find precompiled shader for effect materialfactory/materialbase.hlsl:SPARKBURST_MATERIAL=1:. This is bug! Fuzzysham Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 (edited) So I just spent about half a day reformatting my main drive to the Windows 8 RTM (build 9200) and my game is crashing every time I exit a mission. Before it gets to the debrief it will crash to desktop. I have an Nvidia GTX 580 with the latest drivers. All my other drivers are up-to-date as well. Attached is a text file with three crash logs copied and pasted into it.DCS Crash Logs - Three Combined.txtFuzzysham - DxDiag.txt Edited October 14, 2012 by Fuzzysham Added DxDiag
ARM505 Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Ok, this is actually becoming a bit of a pain in the ass - any progress on fixing this? Anybody? :)
Phobon Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 (edited) Same problem here Just wanted to say that I've got the same problem. The game itself is running pretty stable but whenever I exit a mission, it just crashes to desktop. I'm also running Windows 8 64 bit. Before updating to 1.2.1 I had no crashes whatsoever.dcs.log.txtme.log.txtDCS-20121023-204522.crash.txt Edited October 23, 2012 by Phobon added crash logs
ddahlstrom Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 Out of curiosity, is there anyone out there reading this thread who is running Windows 8 RTM with 1.2.1 and not crashing after existing a mission?
ophiuchus Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 It seems there is none. I figured out, that crash occurs while exiting "regular" missions and not the training ones. So 1.2.1 version of mission summary generator looks like source of the problem to me.
Guest Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 I just installed Windows 8, and I get the same crash when exiting the mission (Launcher.exe crashing in lua-dxgui.dll). Hopefully this gets sorted out soon, as for now DCS has to be shelved on this machine :(
Mirtma Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 Mee too. Yesterday installed Win8 64, now CTD after exiting mission. Mirtma Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 (edited) I've tried compatibility mode set for Windows 7. When closing mission, now it goes a little further before CTD. jens198 Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Same here. Installed Win8 64Bit and since then I CTD when I exit a mission. Jens
Devildog1775 Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Yep same here DCS 1.2.1 and Windows 8 64bit, CTD after I exit a mission.
ddahlstrom Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 (edited) Try Windows 7 compatibility mode and administrator. I did this and it started closing properly, no issue. That was one of the first things I tried (and just tried it again now). No dice. Does this work reliably for you every time? If so, you would be (apparently) the first person on Windows 8 that doesn't have this problem. Did you happen to make any other adjustments besides compatibility mode and admin?
