It's neither, just absolute necessity if you want to even have a change of surviving.

Better to get killed instead I suppose?

What do you suggest instead? Pattering it with .50cal, when you know it's armoured for protection against almost twice that calibre?

if you know you have been detected.. sure try and save your tank by killing the threat.. i am assuming the tanker has not been discovered and by firing he has a very slim chance of making a kill but a decent chance of altering an aircraft that was designed to kill him... that's just dumb in my ill educated opinion.

Problem is, you never know for sure if you've been detected or not till its to late......

But yes, if your sure your undetected, don't tell the enemy where you are by shooting laser range finders at him.

Part of the issue is that MWS alerts you of both friendly and enemy launches, so when operating close with friendlies launching missiles, it's full of false positives, and therefore lazy people like me just end up ignoring it altogether XD

This is what teamspeak is for. If you're flying on a TS server, use it. Then if you get a MWS alert and don't hear "Rifle" over the coms, it's time to move!

I wonder what are the AI restrictions to using these valuable rounds on planes?? I hope it's not merely "being in-range"?

This seems to be a rather heavy, relatively slow and not very maneuverable missile so to have a chance to actually hit something (I presume it's triggered by a direct hit only) with those limited zoom T-80 optics, this could only be used against targets moving slowly towards the tank in a relative way - e.g. for an airplane, it would e.g. be a slow and very-low A-10 moving almost directly towards the tank, thus a very very narrow engagement envelope.

The manufacturer was probably referring to hovering helicopters and the likes, not really a moving A-10.

So, IMHO, the DCS shouldn't make it possible unless it can really limit the engagement envelope. I mean, I'd hate to see the tanks firing these at airplanes like crazy just because some pamphlet says they theoretically can do that without going into any restriction specifics. And if they actually start scoring a lot of hits on moving airplanes or helicopters, then there's something seriously wrong here.

If I were tank (ground vehicle) commander in DCS: CA I wouldn't lock target (example Ka-50) in multiplayer - I'd fire missile and keep target cue close to the target as long as possible moving aim cross on target in last moments... by that enemy gets warning just few seconds before impact which is too late.... for him :D

It's been tested in the Bradley (or whatever fires TOW missiles) against Ka-50 :D

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

I was assuming the hog already knows where you are.

Then you're as dead as a doornail because your turret cannot traverse high enough to get off a round in his direction quick enough.

That depends exactly where he is and whether you're on flat ground.

You are not going to shoot him.

If he is under 500m and within your range, on a verge of a stall, all this while knowing where you are, then yeah, he deserves to get shot.

Good luck finding such a clueless Hog driver :)
