Raven434th Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 If "keys" are what authorizes the game modules, then why do we need to download the other modules for DCS???Why don't they just include all aircraft in DCS world and "release" them as we purchase a key for that particular aircraft?Rather than having to download gig's of instalation files and taking up all the HD space, simply "authorize" them from within DCS world??? joey45 Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 We are not downloading gigs. World is 5.4 gigs and dthe modules are,, CA - 34 megs P-51 - 296 megs BS2 - 322 megs A10 - 356 megs The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. AlphaLima Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 The idea of using modules was that they could update a single module without having to redownload everything else. However so far the only updates have been across the board updates, rather defeating the purpose of the module system.
Raven434th Posted October 1, 2012 Author Posted October 1, 2012 But what happens when all those other modules get released?it looks as though its gonna be gigs worth then...unless it all gets incorporated into DCS world...but is that going to happen? SkateZilla Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 from this point on, 3rd party modules are either installed on your end or sent to your system via auto update. you wont have to download a huge 5GB DCSW file just to get a new module. Raven434th Posted October 1, 2012 Author Posted October 1, 2012 Ah...that makes sense. BigfootMSR Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 But what happens when all those other modules get released?it looks as though its gonna be gigs worth then...unless it all gets incorporated into DCS world...but is that going to happen? All of the modules are already realeased in DCS world. They are only a few megabytes in size each. They all plug into DCS world. The new release 1.2.1 will allow updating of everything without having to redownload everything after every patch. However, for this patch, you must do just that. Make sure when you are looking for the modules though, that you are downloading the module and not the standalone version which is several gigabytes. Wolf Rider Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 But what happens when all those other modules get released?it looks as though its gonna be gigs worth then...unless it all gets incorporated into DCS world...but is that going to happen? you would still be downloading "gigs" whichever way you went, that being an all in one, or each addon seperatetly. Then with each new add-on release, you would have to download that seperatly when that became available. Downloading the base, then each add-on as required (and activating it)seems the most efficient method... and bear in mind with the introduction of the auto-updater, a full release download for each new base version will no longer (except for the intial) be required. Echo38 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 The benefit of the modules is that people who do not own them all do not need to download them all. For example, I have A-10C and P-51D, but I do not have Ka-50. I also do not have Combined Arms nor Flaming Cliffs 3, nor will I ever. So, the module system saves me from having a few hundred megabytes of wasted space on my World installation.
