deaconjb
After many months of trying to decide what I wanted to do, I finally fired up the CNC machine. My goal is to have a versatile pit that I can use for different sims -primarily DCS A10 but I also have an F18 front panel in the works as well. The 23" acer touchscreen will work well with Helios. In a few days I will be installing my custom printed panels. Many thanks to everyone in this forum as well as the sim community and a special thanks to FLIM over at www.scsimulations.com for the awesome ACES seat files. deaconjb
Appreciate the comments. I've had the CNC since January and it has really enhanced my capabilities in my business. I've heard of some ppl making their own home CNC machine. I wouldn't know how or have the desire to do it though. Worked on the center panel some more today and enhanced the piece that holds the monitor and it will also now line up so I can add a glare shield later. Since I'm not building a "replica" pit, I'm trying to decide what switches to include in my side panels and which ones to leave out. Any suggestions? deaconjb
BTW - I'm not opposed to cutting your files that will ship in the US if someone might be interested. I would imagine shipping pit parts overseas could get expensive. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
deaconjb
A few pics of monitor mount Didnt get much done the last couple of days but got the seat primed. I've also included a few more side shots of my monitor mount that is easily removed. **The last pic is why my pit has been delayed. Made some shelves for the wife - but the cnc machine made quick work of it. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
deaconjb
Many wrong ways - but making progress Thomas Edison is said to have tried over 10,000 different ways to invent the light bulb. When asked if he was discouraged he said, "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." Well I feel the same way about my first attempt at cockpit building. I've made a lot of progress and should have many pics to post tomorrow. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

deaconjb
I'm finding that not having the luxury of 3D modeling my pit design before assembly has proved to make things slow going. I've had to correct a few minor things but no big issues. However, It has put me back a bit on getting new pictures up. Coming soon. deaconjb
Ive managed to make a little progress. I'm a little farther along than these pics show and will post more soon. The left panel will swing open to ease getting in and out of the pit. Ive also decided to make a NACES seat. Pit #2 will be closer to an F18 than A10 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
agrasyuk
Deac, this looks like above average solution for simming. IMHO you really need to rethink your decision of not building HIGH fidelity sim. with minimal adjustments you certainly have a good platform for it now. just saying :music_whistling: Anton. deaconjb
Thanks agrasyuk. I'm ok with building things but wiring switches and making realistic panels seems a bit more than I want to take on right now. The good thing is, the side panels can easily be changed out if I want to add a more complex panel layout later. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
deaconjb
@ agrasyuk - this pit won't have the room needed for ALL the A10c panel switches. Which ones would you suggest including? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
deaconjb
ACES to NACES seat conversion Trying to make an ACES to NACES seat easily convertible. It's not a perfect replica of either, but when I'm done, it should work great. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
agrasyuk
@ agrasyuk - this pit won't have the room needed for ALL the A10c panel switches. Which ones would you suggest including? as i replied in your other thread i think you will enjoy having the master arm, gun and laser switches from AHCP panel. stuff like landing gear and and canopy is also will be of use in in any aircraft you fly. the rest is really up to you. my goal is not replica cockpit either. I want to eventually be able to perform cold start without keyboard or mouse. so aside of that I have electrical, fuel, AAP, SAS, CMSP (made by Gadroc). i still need NMSP all of those are hardly "must have" during the flight, but i really enjoying the eye candy and the process of building. while you don't have room for all, you surely have room for lots with minimal changes to your structure. leaving everything as is i see two openings on left console. electrical and either AAP or CMSP will look natural there. decisions, decisions... and all yours to make :) have fun and good luck! Thanks for the suggestion agrasyuk. So with your idea in mind, I've mocked up what it might look like. The only panel that doesnt seem to fit is the Armament HUD Control Panel but it will be part of the Helios touchscreen setup. deaconjb
A little progress Made a little progress today and just about completed the NACES seat. Since my seat is on wheels, I needed a way to "lock" it into position when I'm in the pit so I made a spring loaded locking bolt and attached it to the ejection control handle (rope). Once in the pit, the locking bolt will lock into position behind the joystick mounting plate. I will probably move the pit inside next week and get the printed side panels, touch screen monitor, and LED strip lighting installed. Thanks for looking....and as always, your comments and suggestions are very welcome. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
