DCS World autoupdate from 1.2.1 to 1.2.2 takes forever

I'm trying to update my DCS World to 1.2.2 with the auto updater but its taking a ridiculous amount of time. The download starts but it just creeps along such that after over an hour its probably only at around 15% downloaded if that.

My internet connection is very fast and checked to ensure no drag on it at the moment, I run Win 7 64 and with all correct administrative privileges when launching DCS and the updater. The download is going so slowly that I might as well just download 1.2.2 and just install the whole thing that way.

I thought it was server load from the FC3 launch but this is pretty stupid. Its seriously like watching a kettle boil except a kettle eventually boils.

This is when I wish there was a manual patching option, so I could at least download from an FTP or torrent.

I assume this is a bug, or are the servers just this loaded non stop for 2 days?

I did a comparison shot. Between 11am and 11:13 the download bar didn't move a single pixel.

I know this cause I compared them in photoshop at high zoom after taking two screen caps at the times mentioned.

There are 229 pixels in the download bar, and I've downloaded up to 39 of those pixels. That took probably over 2 hours (my first estimation was pretty generous) and at this rate... yea its not downloading, no matter how big it is.

Honestly, this auto updater is the biggest let down in the history of auto updaters. I'm literally about to go download the new version from scratch. Watch me do it all in the time it takes me to collect pixel #40.

Will it make a log if it never finished downloading and didn't report a bug?

It logs everything everytime. You can even grab the log while it's working.

Just copy it somewhere (despite it's zero size) - you will get the snapshot of the log at that time.

Alright where do I find the log? Im looking but you'll probably answer faster than I can find it.

I don't remember it telling me there was an error. All I ever did was cancel the download to play the game cause I didn't want to wait that long and tried it again today, where it resumed at the previously downloaded amount but hasn't moved since.

Yea, its moved 11 pixels now in an hour of waiting. I'm at 50 pixels!

I'm also at 83% on the DCS 1.2.2 full torrent and it should be done in another 7 mins.

I dont' wanna sound like a smart ass, and I'm not really trying to be one of those dicks who just wants to whine, but... not much point in an auto updater if it gets so overloaded during update week if its faster to just torrent the whole thing all over again.

Basically it seems that the auto updater is going to be a big waste of people's time until servers can handle the load of a major update.

Well I must be special then!

What update is this exactly...appears to be ~333 mb? Thanx.

It is the update for DCS World 1.2.1 to 1.2.2 I assume. As Coff mentioned 680MB, that is I bet for all the modules and DCS core. I guess it depends on what modules you have installed.

One of the suggtions I made, and I bet ED are looking in to it (along with the million other things the poor buggers are working on lol) is that the autoupdater displays what you are going to download before downloading. Size, version number, patch log etc.

Look in your autoupdate log file. Will tell you which version it is updating from and which version it is updating to. Also has a list of the relevant files that are being updated.

I torrented and installed 1.2.2 because the updater wasn't working for me. Now it seems as though it keeps trying to update me like I'm still on 1.2.1 even though I uninstalled and reinstalled.

Log file confirms that it knows I'm already at 1.2.2:

However, my updater is stuck at exactly the same spot it was yesterday and its not moving, not after 15 minutes now and the log seems to indicate its trying to download only 66 megabytes so... shouldn't take this long. Also, download bar filled as if it was rebuffering an already partially complete download, even though that would be for an older version of the game.

Is there anywhere I can go to find the buffered partial update and delete it so that the updater will start to download the right update?

Autoupdater is always downloading the right update, and automatically deletes already downloaded files which are no longer needed.

Slow update is caused by the bug in mirror selection code. It's one of the fixes it tries to download so hard. It will be much faster after that.

And the log tells that your 1.2.2.7122.28858 is being updated to 1.2.2.7204.4
