Blacknemisis Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Wanted to know if anyone has tried this? http://www.sdsquad.com/index.php?topic=2403.0 I want to have a wireless pro clip the wires get all in my way and I want to start flying on my big screen TV instead of my monitor. Wish NP would do something like this.
G00dnight Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 yes i did this ages ago it works very well, adds a little more weight to the headset but is not uncomfortable to wear, only reason i stopped is i now use a wired headset & vector pro all built in to a helmet... recoilfx Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Heheh guys, we already have a wireless trackir solution. It's the regular track clip :)
BTTW-DratsaB Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 (edited) You mean the Hat clip? Nah, that's no where near as accurate as the TCP for Cockpit interaction, I find. It's about time natural point got off their monopolized lazy asses and released a wireless TCP. Preferably one that isn't made of bone china that breaks when it has 1 foot fall. They would probably still charge a stupid price for it and include an unrealistic warranty period, though. I bet they would charge €60+ for a wireless Track Clip Pro. Yeah...natural point arnt exactly one of my favorite companies these days. The gits wouldn't even offer me a discount on a replacement TCP when it broke for the seconds time, I even pointed out to them that they had redesigned the TCP to make it stronger, and mine was an older version that had broken in the exact place they had strengthened. But they wouldn't even do anything to help me out, greedy gits. Ill be damned if I am giving them another €30 for some flimsy piece of plastic that will break in another 12 months. MegOhm_SD Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 (edited) What prompted us to do this is the fact we have the Logitec G930 wireless surround sound headset.... It made no sense to have a wireless headset and be wired for TIR... I also sit 6 feet from my 52" Screen...Best move we ever made...Freedom!!! You should notice the dongle is still there in case you ever need to plug it in....since the attached pic was taken, I turned the dongle down towards the battery pack to have a cleaner rig. So now there is nothing on top of the band other than the small wires running under the black Duct tape which blends right in. If you don't want to solder...you can also use small crimp connectors sized for phone line, Radio Shack has them...the wires are quite small... I have not had to plug the TIR in over the last 16 months and I will fly for 4-6 hours at a time, sometimes more. I have had the same battery pack from the get go. True the hat clip has nowhere the precision the Proclip has... If you do this...be sure and get the right rechargable battery with the on/off switch, If you get the pack without the on/off switch...it will not stay on more than 10 minutes http://www.duracell.com/en-US/product/instant-usb-charger.jspx Edited April 11, 2013 by MegOhm_SD Cooler Master HAF XB EVO , ASUS P8Z77-V, i7-3770K @ 4.6GHz, Noctua AC, 32GB Corsair Vengeance Pro, EVGA 1080TI 11GB, 2 Samsung 840 Pro 540GB SSDs Raid 0, 1TB HDD, EVGA SuperNOVA 1300W PS, G930 Wireless SS Headset, TrackIR5/Wireless Proclip, TM Warthog, Saitek Pro Combat Pedals, 75" Samsung 4K QLED, HP Reverb G2, Win 10

coilwinder Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Heheh guys, we already have a wireless trackir solution. It's the regular track clip :) I was thinking the same thing :P You mean the Hat clip? Nah, that's no where near as accurate as the TCP for Cockpit interaction, I find. I wasn't aware of that, I'll have to test that sometime. Soldering up three IR LEDs shouldn't be that much trouble (Making it look good, be comfortable and wireless is perhaps something else). Just realised, kinda old thread. But no matter.
Vivoune Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Old thread but still relevant stuff considering how much demand there is for a wireless trackIR and how NaturalPoint fail to satisfy in that area, you'd think they'd be all over it by now. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Vivoune Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 (edited) Tell me about it, I just had to buy a new pair of headphones too and was going for the Astro A50. I didn't go for wireless though, I spend way too much time with it on a day, I'd have to charge the thing every minute Im not using it and plugging in plugging off all day long every time I take a break would be tedious so I went for its wired counterpart (A40 2013 ed). Still, I dislike the track clip Pro USB cable with some passion. Enough to cut it off and hook a tiny 3.7v cellphone battery (very thin, very light weight and more importantly we all got one hanging around from our previous cellphone we don't know what to do with), works like a charm, just use a little switch in there and all should be well. Note that given it's not the usual 5v the IR leds aren't as bright but as far as can tell it doesn't change a thing. EDIT: Figured It wouldn't hurt to throw in a few photos. Night Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Track IR is lame. I built my own head tracker setup with an old webcam (used some undeveloped old film as the IR filter) and I use FreeTrack for the software. It's very straightforward and cost me $12 to build with parts from RadioShack., and it works every bit as good as my track IR 4 pro. And I can use whatever battery I please. No annoying wires to fool with or large battery packs. shelt Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Just got myself a G930 and did it tonight, very simple to do and it works really well! Sure you are gonna love it Highwayman-ED My G930 is getting a little old, some of the padding cover is flaking off, plug in connection getting a little flaky at times. The process of going wireless is very simple, just chose the right battery pack. Newegg had it on sale around Christmas for $69, wish I had bought 2 spares...lol Intel i7-3770K,Windows 10 64,Noctua NH-U12S ,ASRock Z77 Extreme4 ,G.Skill 32GB DDR3 2400,EVGA GTX 1080,ADATA XPG900x2 RAID 0, CM HAF XB Case,Thrustmaster Warthog,Combat Rudder Pedals,Logitech G930 with wireless TrackIR 5, 39" Insignia LED 120Hz Monitor, Oculus Rift
mr_mojo97 Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 Yeah, I did this a few months ago without any issues. Although I did read about the battery pack with the on/off switch with curiosity. I have a battery pack without a switch and have no issues with using my TrackIR for hours at a time and the good thing abut it is the batty pack has the same power connection as my G930. Which is handy. Anyway I bought some male USB connectors on eBay for £1 et voila, perfect. Natural Point will prob go out of business anyways when the rift or some other VR becomes mainstream unless they have a few tricks up their sleeves. It has been good even with its faults for a few years but the future is coming soon so watch out NP MSI M5 z270 | Intel i5 7600k (OC) 4.8GHz | MSI GTX1080ti Gaming X 11Gb | 500gb Samsung 970 Evo NVME M.2 (DCS World) | 500gb Samsung 850 Evo SSD (OS and Apps) | 32Gb 2400MHz DDR4 - Crucial Ballistix | Be Quiet Silent Loop 240mm | NZXT H440 case | Thrustmaster Warthog - 47608 with Virpil Mongoose joystick base | MFG Crosswinds - 1241 | Westland Lynx collective with Bodnar X board | Pilot's seat from ZH832 Merlin | JetSeat | Oculus Rift S | Windows 10 | VA |
