Kuky Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 In DCS world bilges were changed to more realistic operation where the targeting circle, or whatever it's called, will change position depending on what side the next missile will fire from. Simple workaround is: use launch override and keep holding the trigger and it'll fire two bilges in one go. Hover since all vehicles are destructible with single only you don't really need to fir more than one at a time... joey45 Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Plane was a bit low wasn't it..? The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. maturin Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 The Vikhr was designed to be fire in pairs, right? But the Su-25T simply lacks the FCS to handle it correctly? Given the quantity over quality design, I wonder if they are too accurate in-game.
159th_Viper Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 I wonder if they are too accurate in-game. How so? Cheaper does not necessarily mean less effective. At the end of the day it does not matter how you cook the tank, just as long as it cooks and the Vikhr is a good chef :D 1 Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? At the end of the day it does not matter how you cook the tank, just as long as it cooks and the Vikhr is a good chef :D I read about the 'quantity over quality' thing elsewhere, and I can't think how that would present itself except in terms of accuracy. You don't hear about Ataka or Hellfire being intended to be fired in pairs, and I would assume the purpose is to up the hit probability of a very fast, long-range, not very maneuverable or accurate missile.

SmokeyTheLung Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 I must have read some of the same material that Maturin read. Basically, this I'd what I remember: The accuracy/reliability issues with Vikhr missiles is offset by low (compared to Hellfire) cost. Pilots are encouraged to fire them in pairs to up the chances of a hit/kill (and still "save" money when compared to the Hellfire). Can't remember the source, but I'm pretty sure it was the Internet...so you know it's true :D System specifications: Computer, joystick, DCS world, Beer
D4n Posted December 6, 2012 Author Posted December 6, 2012 (edited) ... and the Vikhr is a good chef :D Hell yeah, indeed... You just keep watching the shkval how the missile flies in a circle path around the middle of your reticle (actually only if u cannot hold the plane straight ;) ) and finally hits & blows and vehicle... :D  Still, what u mean by those words in the post above? And neither is the Vikhr intended to be fired in pairs. It is, I read it too somewhere, also here it is said, last part in "Description": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9K121_Vikhr Edited December 10, 2012 by DanielNL DCS Wishlist: 2K11 Krug SA-4 Ganef SAM, VR-TrackIR icons next to player names in score-chart PvP: 100+ manual player-kills with Stingers on a well known dynamic campaign server - 100+ VTOL FARP landings & 125+ hours AV-8B, F-14 crew, royal dutch airforce F-16C - PvP campaigns since 2013 DCS server-admins: please adhere to a common sense gaming industry policy as most server admins throughout the industry do. EtherealN Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 (edited) Wikipedia... :( Anyway, what it says on Wikipedia is: "The missiles can be fired singly or in pairs (at the same target to increase lethality)." Note: it says can be, not is intended to be. That is, the capability is there as an option. Think of it like the rate selector on a standard combat rifle: it can be fired in fully automatic. That does however not mean that "the correct way to operate the rifle is to spray and pray". It's a capability that has it's place. So against some targets you'll fire one missile, on others you'll double-tap, just like in some situation you'll double-tap single shots with your rifle, in others you might have the salvo selected, and if things are really going south for you (and you have plenty of ammo around) you'll find yourself in automatic. Each thing to it's own appropriate situation. You don't hear about Ataka or Hellfire being intended to be fired in pairs, and I would assume the purpose is to up the hit probability of a very fast, long-range, not very maneuverable or accurate missile. From what i read (cant really state the sources, the internet anyway), the vikhr has a single shot hit probability >.9 . that seems pretty much similar to other similar same-gen AT missiles. generally speaking, i get that laser beam-riders are the most precise guided munitions (i may be wrong). with radar guided hellfires for example, you have fire and forget capability, without even the need of a los to the target but im not sure they can achieve the same precision, specially in a ECM-dense scenario [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Intel i7 6700K @ 4.2, MSI M5 Z170A Gaming, NZXT X61 Kraken liquid cooler, PNY Nvidia GTX 1080 Founders Edition, 16GB Corsair Vengeance 3000 Mhz C15, samsung 840 evo SSD, CoolerMaster 1000W Gold rated PSU, NZXT Noctis 450 cabinet, Samsung S240SW 24' 1920x1200 LED panel, X-52 Pro Flight stick.
