Wombat1940 Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 I've just bought FC3 and it will not load. Just says DCS will have to close down which it does after sending error message to Eagle. DCS world works Ok. I have attached the me.log and DCS.log files for reference. My OS is WinXP. Thanks. sobek Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 That's probably because you don't have enough RAM. :( The minimum system specs for DCS World state that you need at least 3Gb of RAM. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!

sobek Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 I have 8Mb of RAM. I suspect you mean Gb. ;) Yes, 32bit operating systems are a problem as they do not have enough adress space for more than 3 gigs. It's like trying to found a new town in a country where all postal codes are exhausted already so you can't receive mail. Better to switch to a postal code system with a few additional digits. :) In the meantime, you could try this, but be aware that it might not work. The ideal solution would be to switch to a 64 bit OS (64bit versions of Win8 or Win7) Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!

Followed instructions and now progressed to a black screen with some white lines on it. :( Think I'm doomed. Eagle Fsims always have been huge on Memory requirements right back to LOMAC days. At least I can get the Su-25T to fly in DCSW, but its cost me $39.99 to find out that's all I can fly. Edited December 7, 2012 by Wombat1940 XP Home SP3 32bit/Vista 64bit dual boot, Gigabyte Ultra Durable 3 GA-EX58-UD4P motherboard, Intel i7 920 2.66Ghz/8Gb RAM chip set, NVIDIA GeForce GTX275 video card, Realtek ALC850 sound circuitry.
sobek Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Think I'm doomed. As i said, why not switch to a 64bit OS? In your current state, 5 gigs of your RAM are sitting on their hands and doing absolutely nothing. I would consider that a greater waste of money than what you have to shell out for a new OS. Should you opt not to switch, you could try to get a refund from official support. Please note that due to the large number of open tickets, it could take a while until they get to you. 1 Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!

Yes ..... all the advice I'm getting points to a new OS. I'd go for 64bit Win 7 Home Premium. I play other FSims and one doesn't like Win8. I have a partitioned HDD with XP and Vista. Never use the Vista partition, so I could install Win7 on that. In fact its been suggested I install DCSW/FC3 on the Vista OS. But FC3 is a distraction as I am again trying to come to terms with Falcon AF/BMS4.32. No ...... I won't apply for a refund. I knew what I was getting into. After all DCSW is free and that plays fine, and FC3 is still Beta. When ready, WIn7 should fix all. Edited December 7, 2012 by Wombat1940 XP Home SP3 32bit/Vista 64bit dual boot, Gigabyte Ultra Durable 3 GA-EX58-UD4P motherboard, Intel i7 920 2.66Ghz/8Gb RAM chip set, NVIDIA GeForce GTX275 video card, Realtek ALC850 sound circuitry.

sobek Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 (edited) It's a long time since i used vista, so i don't quite remember if the menu entries are named exactly as in windows 7, but this should work, maybe with shortcuts being named a little different. Edit: It states specifically for Vista too, i didn't see that, so the link should be good. Edited December 7, 2012 by sobek Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! EtherealN Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Vista is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit. You can find out which version you have pretty easily through either of two means: A) Open start menu. Select "Control Panel" Select "System and Security" Select "System" You should then see, under the System section, the line "System type", which will specify whether it is a 32 or 64-bit system. B) Open Start menu Select "Computer" Select the Local disk, (C:) If the system is 64-bit, there should be folders named "Program Files" and "Program Files (x86)". If the system is 32-bit, there will only be the single "Program Files" without the x86. HF is suggesting the same. Maybe I don't have the dedication to Falcon, or the time or the inclination. My lifestyle is full of other things. Maybe too full to dedicate the time to BMS. HF's says that FC3 is more friendly, bit like TAW2.0. I wouldn't have to sell my soul to join MP. Looks like I've got a OS (Vista 64bit) which will handle FC3. Its just a matter of loading it. I'm away at the moment. Will have a look when I get home. Wombat1940 Posted December 17, 2012 Author Posted December 17, 2012 I'm back!!! I'm now trying to get FC3 running on Vista 64bit OS. Just to say again I have XP installed on my C: partition of my HDD and Vista on my D: partition of the same HDD. I copied both the DCS/World and DCS/FC3 downloads from the C:-XP partition to the D:-Vista partition expecting to have to re-install both DCS/W and DCS/FC3 to the D: partition. I booted up into Vista, but when I clicked on the install DCSW icon in the D: directory, it suggested that I install it on the C: partition. :noexpression: I suppose it doesn't matter where it installs it as long as its running it under the Vista OS so I proceeded. (It actually loaded it directly into the folder I had set up for the XP OS installation) :( However it put DCSW icons on my Vista desktop and I could run DCSW under Vista OS. I then tried to install FC3 by clicking on the install icon. It said I had to have LOMAC whatever installed, but when I proceeded further nothing happen. I even reinstalled LOMAC to the D: partition and still nothing. No error message, no request for activation, nothing ..... What am I doing wrong? :helpsmilie: By the way .... However doubled clicked on the FC3 .exe and it ran me through the installation steps, including the request for serial number activation. Installation completed successfully. Loaded DCSW and ran FC3 piloting the A10 successfully. Not sure why it was successful this time other than the final introduction of the FC2 background installation. Lange_666 Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Normally you don't need to have FC2 installed, just a normal LOMAC without any patches or upgrades (FC1/2) should be sufficient. At least this is how i did it here. After my installation of FC3 i did read that it even should be enough to have only the LOMAC cd in the drive and no real installation of LOMAC is needed but i didn't try that approach yet (something for the next dance). I never install any program right into it's default installation directory so installing LOMAC into C:/Programs Files is not needed either. I guess somehow something got messed up while installing various stuff in your dual OS setup. But most important... it's working right now so time to enjoy...:) Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Voodoo1868 Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Glad to see you got yours working but I seem to be having a similar problem with FC3. I managed to dowload LOMAC and FC1 and both work fine. I then tried to download FC2 but some reason the 1-bin file was not recognized when I clickex on the .exe file. The error message kept telling me that 1-bin was missing and insert cd 1 eventhough the bin file was clearly visible. I then installed DCS World, CA, and A-10c with non problem. Next I attempted to install FC3. I got an error message stating that FC3 could not be installed on an older version of DCS World and that I could fix the problem by clicking on the DCS World repair functi. Now, I am unable to find the repair function. My knowledge of computers is slim to none. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
emenance Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 id uninstall fc 2 and dl it again and try to reinstall it. Or just remove it. All you need is the first lock on for FC3. The repair button is in the gui last picture I seen. Soon as you start it up?
