What is the nature of online play? Can more than one human fly in the same flight and prosecute a mission? Do all clients see the carrier and can land on it?

Just wanted to let you know: Got the TacPack. It's a 17mb download..and it adds a lot to the existing Hornet avionics system, launchable weapons and whatnot..I've been flying the Bug for the last couple of days non-stop (carrier traps being my favourite past time)..Money well spent. Recommend it to all the Hornet lovers. Let's hope one day we see the Bug in DCS, untill then VRS + Tacpack will do more then fine! :)

However we want FSX to continue to thrive because it will always be our bread and butter. It has a huge installed base, and ...

Always? That's a non-compromising attitude! Sounds like they'll have a limited future then

... nobody is going to "deactivate" existing copies.'

The above quote from the Tacpack devs so it looks like they will be supporting Prepar3d.

I did .. I deactivated my existing copies of VRS, FSX and P3D :music_whistling: ... steaming pile of cods-wallop that they were ... BUT .. just different strokes I guess. :D

"A true 'sandbox flight sim' requires hi-fidelity flyable non-combat utility/support aircraft."

Wishlist Terrains - Bigger maps

Wishlist Modules - A variety of utility aircraft to better reflect the support role. E.g. Flying the Hornet ... big yawn ... flying a Caribou on a beer run to Singapore? Count me in. Extracting a Recon Patrol from a hastily prepared landing strip at a random 6 figure grid reference? Now yer talking!

The problem is it's still sort of a "hack" of a dead old engine. Even if it's an engine that has some features we SHOULD have in current simulators, it's a dinosaur that should be buried. Efforts need to be put elsewhere, for the good of the genre.

And maybe it's OT, but ED is going to have to up their game if they want to really attract more developers of their own volition. Engine/environment, support for developers...

For FSX I believe that there will be alot more mods in the next few years, when Prepare3d v2 comes out though if VRS decide to go that path the experience gained from FSX and SH/Tacpac will give them a very powerful sim to mod. I think that Prepare 3d V2 and Tacpac will lead to massive MP combat once they have modded enough aircraft/vehicles and ships. FSX would be difficult for FSX@War to have a full DC but something like Prepare3d could handle it since it has Multicore support and if they have help from Lockheed then such things are possible if they get that support where needed. BTW TPs not a hack, its a mod, and ED already has upped their game.

Well I have both the VRS SHornet and TP now and am enjoying the hardcore change of pace. Got vLSO as well and am doing traps, all 1 and 2 wires so far, mostly "C" (cut) grades so I suck apparently.

Haven't really had a chance to figure out weaponeering yet,l mostly just getting the x65 setup and getting acclimated to the jet.

Have dabbled in online MP @ FSXOPS with Sandpro and company. Not bad. A little awkward but doable.

A major advantage over any other existing combat sim is the ability to fly anywhere in the world and to setup missions as well. Long term potential with fsx@WAR added in is cautiously promising.

On P3D: I am not looking seriously towards that as it is liable to be quite pricey (I would guess)...? Or maybe not if a public version is eventually released.

Conversely, I wish VRS had chosen XPlane as the platform but I understand they are making most of their money help LM get TP working in P3D. In fact, from what I have heard and seen, I doubt FSX TP sales are making them any profit at all.

Who are you and why are you using Mower's account? :D

So how is the TP? Does it model weapons realistically both in how they're launched and physics or is it more like a railgun missile type, fire and shoot?

Do missiles have a proper firing sequence in cockpit? Do they behave properly once launched? Do guns have bullet drop, computer assists, etc..

Does it handle damage realistically, like it knows the difference between a sidewinder or AMRAAM?

I'm genuine in my questions as I'm really tempted by VRS and what the TP seems to offer. With no DCS fast jet and the fugly terrain of BMS I'll take a new fast jet.

I'm not interested in a mod that just makes FSX objects go boom. I'm interested in the simulation aspects of it.

1: The former. Launch zone changes with closing velocity, altitude and the like. Basically the missile physics are modelled in the same way as the missile AFM in DCS world. (I know some of you may find that hard to believe that but its true. It all boils down to controlling the 6DOF velocities of the missile and SimConnect provides the means to do just that for any object in FSX).

2: Yes, yes, yes, and yes

Thanks very much for that. I'm really tempted but this close after Christmas justifying $80 for a mod is a bit much. If it came with a campaign though....

Will see how long I can hold out.

I've got to give this thing a decent review. I'm not exactly in love with the flight model or cockpit. Most of the cockpit is great, but the size and placement of the canopy bow is a little jarring (ED set the bar for me :pilotfly:).

Avionics wise, it's pretty believable and definitely an all around cool jet to fly. Too bad it's FSX and not DCS.

As a long time hardcore military flight simmer, tired of FBMS etc, and the sloooooow DCS A10C locked in the Crimea, I am finding this refreshing. Yes, the MP is a little awkward but doable so far. And with the right freeware mods, carrier ops is rocking my world. Picture below does not do the sim justice, looks much better live.
