While I was waiting for the EDGE technology and its performance to see if I could get any DCS module (I can't stand the 15-year old simulation engine, and its FPS), but with Holiday Sale, I just couldn't resist, and I changed my mind!

I'm going to buy DCS: Black Shark 2, and DCS: A-10C Warthog (I'm not the WWII type guy, even with Holiday Sale), but I'd like to know how real these two modules are!

Is there any thing (system) that ED did not implement, and if so, what are they, what is the reason?

Let's fly together for the sake of peace :)

How real the Ka-50 and A-10C are? Well really unless you strapped into one for real I don't think you could get any more real... they are really top notch and dream come true for flight simmer... if every aircraft was made to same standard there would not be one unhappy person on these forums. :D

PC specs:

After using DCS, Wags (I believe) was able to start up the A10c, fly and destroy targets, then land in one of the 'real' A10c simulators used by the airforce.

Kuky is right, unless you have strapped into one of these birds yourself, IRL, you can't compare. Both are modelled extrememly well with a lot to learn before you just go out and blow shit up. Very detailed and well worth your entertainment dollars.

If you really, REALLY know enough about the platform to know the difference- I think one system on the A-10 that was described as more or less placebo to me was the ECM... but seriously- that's really reaching for issues.

Someone in a post mentioned below said that there were no effects of turbulence apparent. Maybe that's another something that isn't up to par with all the realism available in other aspects.

There are some areas where they allow function that would be unavailable to a pilot in the cockpit (adjusting HOF on CBU-97s for example) that would be performed by ground crews- but again... it's implemented in a fashion that blends in well with the overall weapons profiles and is seamless.

Even the most elabourate purists here have a pretty good time enjoying the sim not only for the things that are programmed in- but also the things that occur as a result of the flight model... dynamic effects of different aspects of the sim reacting to one another in a fashion I've heard the hardcore describe as "remarkable."

If it was "real" you would most likely be puking your guts out.

Just enjoy it for what it is.

Not everyone would be puking their guts out. It would stop people from pulling off some insane moves.

I do enjoy watching some of the cockpit footage of the A-10 demonstrations on youtube... you can hear the amount of work involved through the way they brace themselves as they're maneuvering and also when you can hear their breathing.

Certainly, doesn't technically add anything in the sim experience- but it does serve as a reminder that it isn't as easy as it looks.

The only things not modeled as far as I can tell are the things that are classified or simply not something you'll miss.

Example 1- IFF - switches and knobs move but have no effect. I'm guessing this is because IFF/SIF requires Crypto keys to work. Something we don't have... Or need. (IRL crypto is a pain in the azz)

Example 2- TEMS switch in cockpit. Turbine engine monitoring system. Pressing the switch inflict takes a snapshot of the engine performance and is used by the knuckle dragging maintainers like Cali and paulkrill ( :smilewink: )

Little thing like that. Otherwise the level of detail is insane.

Have fun.
