Unable to enter vehicle: wrong vehicle type

Hi,

 

I would like to play the role as JTAC with my friend in a A-10. I got a tips that I could try the missions starting with MP-US in the mission folder.

 

Although I bought DCS:CA several months ago I've never used it so I have no idea how it works...

 

According to the manual I can enter a vehicle by selecting it in the F10 map screen, and press Right Alt - J. If I do so I get an error message on the top of the screen:

 

Unable to enter vehicle: wrong vehicle type

 

What is wrong?

Make sure that having the main screen open, the CA-Symbol is not showing a "$" (to buy) symbol. If it does show, start Singleplayer and open a CA mission.

 

If in F10 and selecting a ground vehicle designed to play jtac (single unit sams, SPAAA, HMVVEE, Tanks) a "tank" icon appears in top row left side. Simply click that to enter the "first person control" of that ground unit.

Also you need to make sure the vehicle is set to be controlled by the player in the mission editor or else you will not be able to enter it.

Yes, I have no $ symbol, so that is ok. In a mission, using the F10 menu I do see the tank icon on a few units, but never JTACs. Usually the symbol appears on SAMs that are far from the front or M1 Abrams tanks.

Yes, I've checked several missions with the Mission Editor. Every unit, including JTACs, have set that "Player can drive" or something like that. However I still get the

Unable to enter vehicle: wrong vehicle type message when trying to "board" them...

 

Maybe you have a suggestion to a mission where I easily can join as JTAC for my friend in an A-10?

Just bought CA, and I am having the same problem. I have A-10C and BS2, LOMAC 2.

 

When I load even in MP as JTAC or Ground commander the tank icon don't show up, tried couple of times.

 

When in SP, I have to exit and reload mission for the tank icon to show up.

 

Everything is latest update.

On the left side of the mission editor there is a symbol/button with two flags back to back,

You need to click on the the roles to add JTACs for each side for multiplayer.

I see. I'm not really interested in designing missions on my own. I'm more interested in playing missions already set up for JTAC, however they do not seem to work...

 

I see a list of JTAC for both red and blue side on the list you refer to. What does 2 instead of 1 mean? In a mission I just checked there was a 1 there, and I would assume this means that there is one JTAC available? However no JTACs are playable in the mission.

Yes, I can understand that, and this is also what I want to achieve. I'd like to point out targets for my friend flying the DCS:A-10. It still does not seem to work for me however as I'll explain below...

And this is my main problem. Although I am, in a few missions, able to enter Abrams tanks and then press B for the JTAC function, I have not yet been able to enter any units designated as JTACs by the mission.

So far I've only tried missions starting with MP-US (as I assume MP-US means Multiplayer US missions?) in this folder:

Just now for example, I hosted a multiplayer server and started the MP-US Battalion Day Advance - Maykop mission. I then selected the first JTAC unit in the list:

 

 

My first confusion is that when I select a ground unit I'm not situated in the cockpit like what happens when I select an A-10. Instead I'm presented with the F10 menu map. So what unit am I? I do not know, but I find a JTAC unit and select it:

 

 

I then press Right Alt-J indicating I'd like to enter and control that vehicle, but this is where I get the Unable to enter vehicle: wrong vehicle type error message as indicated in the upper left corner:

 

 

I try to enter all other units in the mission, but get the same result on every one of them. As mentioned above I have been successful in entering some tanks from time to time, but not in this mission apparently (can't remember what mission it was in right now)

 

 

So basically I'm stuck... What am I doing wrong?

Should I try some other missions? Suggestions and download link would be appreciated.

Not sure what is going on there, but I have checked it in my 1.2.3 test version and I can enter those units and perform the JTAC role in Multiplayer.

Open the mission file in ME, save as and run it in MP - this will work with 1.2.2.

I am experiencing the exact situation as with Hoggorm. Thanks for the complete report with images Hoggorm.

 

I have had Lomac & LOMAC FC (DVD rom), FC 2 (online purchase), A-10C (steam) and BS 2(DVD BS1 and Online BS2). and now CA (online) so I know a little bit of missions editting (triggers and stuff)..have read the whole CA manual too.

 

This is what I have experienced so far:

 

1. At SP mode, I will choose a mission, example one of the battalion advance (which I successfully finished yesterday after 4hrs SP mode). It will work at first, then if incase I messed up and got killed or something, I would quit and restart mission (without going to main World menu), that is where it gets messed up for me. I can choose ground commander or A-10C at mission start. IF i choose commander then the tank icon disappears and I am not able to enter any vehicle except the A-10C.

 

The only way to make it work is to quit to main world screen and reselect mission to restart, then no problem, as I have said when it works at first you'll have no problem, that's why I was able to finish the mission

 

2. At MP mode, I tested in LAN mode, chose one of the MP battalion advance mission, choose ground comm then same thing, unable to enter vehicle.

 

It's not really a major problem but i want to help Hoggorm so you guys get what we're saying..

Open the mission file in ME, save as and run it in MP - this will work with 1.2.2.

 

This solved the problem for me. After just opening and saving the MP-US Battalion Day Advance - Maykop mission I was able to enter both JTACs, SAMs and tanks.

Although this is a fix, I do not find it satisfactory... It should be unnecessary to do it this way..?

I'm getting the same issue when trying to use a not so old mission, The mission always worked great, in that you moved from vehicle to vehicle at your choosing...now the ability to enter the known GOOD mission is intermitten as far as getting into the vehicles. MP non of the online buddys are ever able to get in the vehicles NOW!
