Do you guys play with a deadzone or without ?

If you mean a center dead zone that depends on the individual. I don't have a completely dead (no movement at all) zone but I do have a very shallow curve coming off of the center in the yaw curve.

I never realized how much my head was moving during "staring" at my screen . :joystick:

It's not the moving of your head alone. If you try to pinpoint a certain area, like to flip a switch, you mostly chase your mouse pointer too and that in turn makes you move your head.

It's a bit trial and error to get a setup/profile that you can use. For this i use a next to nothing dead zone but it's not 100% what i like.

Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

For hitting switches, especially on the side consoles, I just pause TIR once my target is in a reasonable location on the screen. You can also toggle 'precision mode' on though I never use it.

What works for me is turning my head first to look directly at the switch (or panel) I'm dealing with, then move the mouse without moving my head. It takes a bit of practice, and it's subtle, but moving both at the same time tends to create the chasing effect Lange mentioned.

I do the same if i need to do some extra work in the same area like setting up a radio or so.

I don't use precision mode either because i feel it doesn't work good enough.

My guess is yes, because it's incredibly annoying having to grab the mouse constantly , however,

Can i control mouselook with a button on a flight stick ?

And, is that comparable to Track-IR ?

Isn't Track-IR taxing on your eyeballs ? (uncomortable)

Track ir 4, or 5 ? I hear 5 is smoother, how much difference does it make ?

Does everybody use Track-ir and a flight stick ?

This question can be likened to the following question:

"Do I need condom with street hoes?"

Of course you do, in either cases!!!

Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

Well, i have to say it's pretty awesome.

This is my first test flight, i forgot to reduce the sensitivity to 1.5 (the way i like it ) , but still it's feels so much more like flying now .

Forgive my crappy flying and poor video quality, for some reason my framerate was only 45 in that video, usually it's around 100 .

Does Track ir take a lot of resources ?

Well as far as I know ED changed it's policy for Freetrack a while back and even integretes it's native API into DCS so it should be ok to post Freetrack links. I do own a trackIR (wich I bought second hand incedently) but I also have a few issues with natural point monopoly policies, if only trackIR didn't work so much better for me than I was ever able to get freetrack too.... No way I would ever had owned one I tell you. But purely speaking of the piece of kit... It's great, out of the box great. Can't even compare using hats or mouse to this.

So what is it you hate about them, what "monopoly policies" are you talking about?

Not really, maybe it was fraps?

I don't hate them, but I do think they should be "put straight" maybe by someone taking legal action agaist them in the states would make them stop their abusive practices. Apart from that we have a lot to thank Natural Point, they didn't exactly invent head tracking, but I believe they made it possible for us simmers and particulary flight simmers to have it avaiable in a way that no one thought of before, also I don't know of anyone implementing 6DOF before they did.

But if you really want to find what they are doing that's wrong and "immoral" pop by that site I linked and do some reading. Not going further about it here. Some people will dismiss it as "nothing but Freeloaders whining" but everyone has a right to their own opinion. My self, even though I own a TrackIR, I'll side with the "freeloaders" and the right everyone should have, to chose what's best for them.

I agree, add to that that their hardware is complete shit in quality.

They lack competition, and it shows.

What link?

Well I goggled some stuff and found this site

http://naturalpointofview.blogspot.com/p/trackir-anticompetition.html

which I found funny since it has a BIG TRACKIR ad posted at the top of it. LOL

If you're going to host a web site dedicated to complaining about someone isn't it kind of odd to sell ads to the people you are complaining about?

Whats shit about it? Mine has worked fine and their design of making it break apart has saved mine from really breaking many time.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you guys have a problem with them enforcing their patents to prevent competition?

Oh well to each his own I guess. :pilotfly:

TrackIR is actually supreme value for money if you count in what are you getting - for $130 it's definitely the best accessory you can get for flight simulation software.

I'd say that you can master any flight sim with simple, sturdy joystick, keyboard and TrackIR; however, with expensive HOTAS only and no TrackIR you miss completely on the immersion factor and you are severely handicapped in dogfight and busy AG missions.

Regarding Natural Point bashing on the net - I don't get it. If they are braking monopoly laws, let the government deal with it!

All this patent whining from also runs in head tracking business reminds me of that fine Aesop Fable - "Fox and the Grapes" :)
