Vlerkies Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 JUst looking right at my lighting panel, zoomed so that no part of the view is looking outside the cockpit, if I turn the flood light on I can drop as my as 25-30 fps, just by turning the flood light on. Wolf Rider Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Gotta keep in mind just how old the current engine is, the era of hardware the current engine was designed in and then see why EDGE is being developed. Add in to that the difficulty associated with making a sim scalable across multiple cores and how many cores each player runs with. (just getting an engine to work properly on a multicore is apparently a task within itself) Is the bulk of simmers running just a dual core? Is the least sized group running a 6 core CPU? (I doubt very much that a great number of simmers will be running 6 cores) Is the target of development for a 2 core or 4 core or 6 core? LordWolf Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 They're making edge, so lets hope it has a different rendering settings

What really kills it sometimes is the shitty optimization. * Heat blur effect, drags down performance even when your not looking at it. * Cockpit flood lights, 30-50 FPS loss by just turning on a light in your cockpit. It's shitty optimization or bad code. Period. * Water effects. Putting it on high making your FPS go all over the place. Even when your not even looking anywhere near water. Everyone is talking about EDGE, but if EDGE is as badly optimized as the current engine it wont matter.
SkateZilla Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Current engine is pretty much over 10 years old :) Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs
AtaliaA1 Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 I've experienced similar issue on my old system with a low-end GPU. I was able to achieve around 60 FPS when looking down, but no more than 14 looking towards the horizon, no matter how low settings I used. My GPU load wasn't anywhere near 100% too. Not sure about CPU load though. What is interesting, this issue came with DCSW 1.2.0. In previous beta release, I was able to maintain between 25-30 FPS at all times except huge battles, even with that poor system. AFAIK, nobody came up with some serious explaination why FPS was affected so badly on some systems by introducing 1.2.0. Wasn't 1.2.0s' release inclusive of the new Graphics Engine? AtaliaA1 Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 I love this sim, and all that, but you really have to consider what they were thinking making it run on ONE CORE and putting only SOUND on the second CORE.... I'm flabbergasted by that. Isn't that a matter of "When" and "Where" the software was being developed. No one had Multi Core Programming for Gaming back then.? AFAIK. xcom Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Tzeer are you using FFB joystick? and it is enabled? I got a problem with my Sidewinder FFB2, whenever the FFB is enabled in the game i lose around 20-30 FPS. Also, I'd suggest removing some settings in the BIOS regarding CPU hangouts, I don't remember the exact setting name, I think it changes from BIOS to BIOS but the setting is the same, it checks wether the CPU is in max use and if not it lowers the multiplyer.
