Go big or go home :)

Some will say you lose quality as your pixels grow, and that is true, but it is much easier to see things like Sam launches and long distance contacts.

I think that the best is a 30" monitor with 2560 x 1600. That is probably the best quality you can get without going ridiculously expensive like the new 4K monitors.

3 x 30" in portrait mode would be great (4800 x 2560 resolution), if you are willing to spend the $$$...

I am using a Dell U2711 27" 2560x1440 monitor and I think it is fantastic! That being said, I have messed about on a friend's 3x 24" setup and multi monitor is the way to go if you can afford it. Multi monitor setups require a really high end single graphics card given that crossfire/SLI isn't supported.

EDIT: To actually answer your question, I think bigger helps immersion and the high pixel density on my monitor helps everything like the text and HUD stay readable (if a little small).

I currently have a 26" monitor, but will be getting a 32+ LCD/LED TV when I get back home. Saw a 39+ one for under $350, I'm sure the prices will slightly drop over the next few months.

To me pixel density/size is important but so is overall size. I have the same 27 as DeathInACan so I have a good balance of both.

I would not want to go smaller than 27 and one of these days I will hook the computer up to the 65inch in the living room just to see what it looks like. ;)

It will probably look better than you would expect.

I'm guessing it's a plasma, so no ghosting as well .

I'm thinking about the same thing, i just need a very long HDMI cable .

But about the monitor, i can barely see my hud the way it is now. Looking at the radar screen is annoying to.

On the other hand i play FPS to, at tryhard level so to speak :P . A 27" inch monitor is not optimal so i won't be using it for that.

Another thing is pixels.

I don't know what it is with Flaming Cliffs, but i should be able to run this game @ max everything . (i7 @ 4 ghz and two GTX 680's in SLI) , but sometimes i get as low as 30 fps !

Then a second later it's back to 100 again .

I fear that upping the res to 2540 will only make this problem greater.

So i need a screen that is :

1) 27 " or greater

2) 120 hz ( !! )

3) 1920 x 1080

4) No ghosting/input lag (< 5 ms Grey to Grey)

5) CHEAP (i'll only be using it for DCS)

edit*

I found a very cheap one , 120 hz, Philips, it's priced down in a couple of stores from 400 euro's to 230 euro's !

edit * .. aww shit , it is only 60 hz when in 2D . I knew there had to be a catch :-(

Running sli isn't always gonna give you better FPS, especially in DCS/FC. That has been known for years and not sure if that will change anytime soon. Try it with just 1 card and see what changes in FPS you get.

Ok, will test now

edit* Tested, SLI does work with FC3 , scaling is about 40% to 60% frame rate increase .

Also i could not get below 80 fps , but this was while flying alone.

I'm sure that would change if i added lots of A.I and other planes in my field of view.

I think the sometimes very low FPS (30 fps) is limited to multiplayer now .

Was the test the same exact mission? was anything different? I wonder if some other people can confirm this?

Yes, i just put my plane in the mission editor, pressed "fly" and didn't touch anything and watched the framerates.

ALso, the SLI indicators are clearly showing that there IS scaling.

It's not 80 to 90% like most tripple A titles, but still somewhere around 50%

Scaling is actually better than i thought .

Settings are all max @ 1920x 1080

Obviously the higher the graphic settings the better SLI works , if you're playing at 800x600 with no AA sli won't do anything at all , and i might have 32x AA forced in the nvidia driver for this game i'm not sure

edit* I see also now in the driver that DCS world actually has an SLI profile now :)

"Nvidia recommended setting for DCS World : SLI " :)

So, basically, it works.

What are you playing on ?

24 or 27 ?

Does it matter for immersion, and seeing stuff better ?

Or is it more a nuisance to have a bigger screen

I feel so unloved as I only has a 23 inch..But I have 3 of them!

I just resently went from one monitor to three and I'm blown away at the difference!

UPS just dropped off my 3 new Coby 39" TVs. $309 each with free shipping from Amazon. Frickin' unbelievable. I spent 3 hours setting up the screens but they are clear and bright. I have my old 25.5" that I'm going to set up for MFDs and gauges. To top it off my wife just bought me a Thrustmaster Warthog and MFD panels. Woohoo... I'm off to go get shot out of the sky a few times.

Where do you set up SLI profiles ???.... in Nvidia inspector ???.

I'm currently running a single 670 2GB card driving a 37" Samsung LED TV (1920x1080), SLI'ing is something that i might consider in the future if it's worthwhile...

My computer is used for a variety of tasks and i've been using the above TV now for over a year and very happy with it. The large TV is not so good for word processing and reading text etc etc, but then again i spend most of my time flight simming and it's well suited for that purpose...

Thanks...

Gunnergolly, was just wondering, my LG runs at 1360 x 768 (native). I had trouble with print until I found that the tv could be set to PC mode. Now it is excellent working with Word and Adobe acrobat.

I think mine is a 32".

I just got wood. lol

But why would your wife want to give you stuff that will keep you away from her for days?:music_whistling::)

How are those MFD's built, I think they are next on my list?

Thanks for the advice jimcarrel, yeah it's the same with my Samsung, you rename a channel to PC and it makes a big difference to the screen quality. However for word processing/reading text etc etc i still find it difficult to adjust to working on a word document that has been spread over the TV's 37 inches.

For gaming however its excellent and have no complaints :)....

these things are great. there was some concerned they would be too big (as if).

the wife will actually sit in a comfy chair behind me and read or play with her iPad. she watches me play my games and will comment on the game sometimes. She bought my headphones too; they're Turtle beach true 5.1 surround headphones that you can hear ambient sound through. Smart gal.

the MFD's are very sturdy. Haven't mounted them yet. Still deciding which monitor to use for the dashboard. I may go with the 25.5" in portrait mode (not sure). One of the guys here had a nice Helios dashboard I may use the configuration for.
