bart Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Hi all..... I'm just getting to grips with this sim and have been watching a lot of videos on you tube etc. and noticed the wing tip vorticies that most folk get when turning tight. Now I've just been playing the training missions up until now and have never seen these off my wing tips regardless of speed and turn rate. Is there an option to turn these on? or don't you get them in the training missions? Also I tried messing with the ejection seat controls and canopy jettison handle which also seen to be inoperative in the training missions? at least I cant get em to work...... however the canopy opening switch does work....even at 250kts at 10,000 ft!!! System :- i7-12700K 3.6 GHz 12 core, ASUS ROG Strix Z690-A Gaming, 64GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3200MHz, 24GB Asus ROG Strix Geforce RTX 3090, 1x 500GB Samsung 980 PRO M.2, 1x 2TB Samsung 980 PRO M.2, Corsair 1000W RMx Series Modular 80 Plus Gold PSU, Windows 10. Madone Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Hi, did you check that the ejection seat was correctly armed? That's an handle on the right side of the seat, with black & yellow stripes which has to be pushed down. The canopy switch has no security indeed, it's up to the pilot to not use it when he doesn't have to. About the vapor trails, that's a weird issue, I don't know much about that but you should see it when there's ambient humidity and under 4Gs at least. Yurgon Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Also I tried messing with the ejection seat controls and canopy jettison handle which also seen to be inoperative in the training missions? at least I cant get em to work...... however the canopy opening switch does work....even at 250kts at 10,000 ft!!! Huh, fascinating. It would appear the canopy jettison handle has a built-in safety: Apparently, you first have to click the safety pin in the middle of the handle as marked in the screenshot before the handle itself becomes operative. I don't know if the normal canopy switch in the real A-10 will work while in the air. It would be fairly straight-forward to include a weight-on-wheels check on that switch, but I think in DCS it could be used in flight ever since the Beta versions. Then again, it's quite simple. Don't use it while airborne. That's really all there is to it.
Madone Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I think he means the usual canopy switch (the lever) that you use once parked and for me, it works whilst airborne. By the way, you have to press 3 times Ctrl + E as default. Yurgon Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Now I've just been playing the training missions up until now and have never seen these off my wing tips regardless of speed and turn rate. Is there an option to turn these on? or don't you get them in the training missions? I'm sure these vapor trails have nothing to do with the training missions (just like the other stuff; it's possible that the ejection seat won't be armed at the beginning of some training missions, but if you arm it, it'll work - regardless of whether it's a training mission or not). I just flew an Instant Action mission in my 1.1.1.1 installation and the vapor trails were easily visible at 300 KIAS and a tight turn (didn't check the accelerometer, but I think I hardly pulled more than 3 g). In 1.2.2, I couldn't even get vapor trails while pulling out of a steep dive with 4 g at 400+ KIAS in the same mission. Did they get "optimized" out of the module? :) My graphics settings are near identical in the two installations, but if someone thinks these depend on certain settings, I can cross check them.

Also I tried messing with the ejection seat controls and canopy jettison handle [...] I'm fairly certain he was referring to the canopy jettison handle, not the canopy open switch in regards to being inoperative. :) I think it's undisputed that the canopy switch is operational independent of weight on wheels. FreeFall Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 By the way, you have to press 3 times Ctrl + E as default. I think those eject handles in the cockpit cannot be operated with mouse. 3 times Ctrl + E is the only way to eject. I just flew an Instant Action mission in my 1.1.1.1 installation and the vapor trails were easily visible I can confirm that:
B25Mitch Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Vapor trails are definitely broken in the latest build, along with sparks during runway belly landing. The vapor trails never looked very good in the first place, but the sparks did.

Yes I get your point, I was just focused on its latest sentence. bart Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 (edited) Thanks for all the replies :) Yes it was the emergency canopy jettison I was talking about. I'll try the push button to release safety catch then pull the handle later today. As for the seat operation I guess 3 clicks on the handle with the mouse wont work? anyway I will again try this later. I haven't read anything about seat operation anywhere, it only breifly mentions it in the manual. Where is it listed what keys are required for certain functions that are not covered with the hotas warthog? Did no one else notice the wing tip vortex trails before then? I thought it may have something to do with my graphics settings, although I've pretty much got everything cranked right up. Hope they fix this in the next release....anyone any idea when this is due? Do the ED or DCS guy's frequent these forums? as someone may have to point this bug out to them......moderators?? Thanks again for the replies guys.... Blaze Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Vapor trails have been around since the first LockOn version. They are broken in DCS World 1.2.2, and the bug is known. i7 7700K | 32GB RAM | GTX 1080Ti | Rift CV1 | TM Warthog | Win 10 "There will always be people with a false sense of entitlement. The ejection handles do not react to mouse clicks, you need to use the keys (or button, if you assign it to the joystick somewhere) three times.
bart Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 The seat works with l/ctrl and e 3x I have a sore back now!!!! Also canopy jettison ok too. Thanks for the info on the wing tip contrails....
