Is there an easy way of slewing the TGP to the current cursor position of the TAD?

I've been flying some of the single player missions, and sometimes I'm told to engage targets a certain number of clicks to the west or east of a waypoint. What I'd like to do is move the cursor on the TAD to a position that's roughly around where I should start searching, then slew the TGP to that point. Is there an easy way of doing this? So far I've been setting a mark point and then slewing the TGP to that, but because mark points can't be deleted, after a few of them the TAD gets really busy.

Yes, but if I understand correctly, you have to have an object to "hook" on the TAD. For example, if the ground based FAC sends you a target via the network to your TAD, you will see a flashing red triangle marking the target. You then move the TAD cursor to the triangle, TMS forward short to hook it, then TMS forward long to create the SPI (you should then see your wedding cake symbol or SPI at that point). Then, make your TGP the SOI and slave your TGP to your newly created SPI (china hat forward long). Hope this helps.

No- you can generate spi from whatever is soi. In addition you can set mark points (tms right short) in a variety of areas you want to look on the tad (or whatever is soi). Then switch the dial by your right leg from mission to mark(point). Sorry cant remember te name of it but right abreast of your cdu.

You can then set your HUD as soi and flip through mark points instead of waypoints- slaving your tgp to those with your china hat forward or rear long (pretty sure both work).

The red triangle is just a marker sent to you over the SADL network. All that is saying is "look here for your target". You can follow the same procedure anywhere you like on the TAD whether there is a symbol there or not.

I tried doing TMS forward long when the TAD is SOI and the "+" is slewed over to where I want to search, but the HUD still says "STPT" and when I china hat forward long, the TGP still slews over to the steerpoint.

I also tried watching the Youtube video that was linked, but it's 40 minutes long and the guy has a very monotonous voice and repeats himself over and over, and I almost fell asleep after only 10 minutes. I'll try and finish up the remaining 30 minutes sometime tonight.

In the meantime, it sounds like creating a markpoint with TMS right short, then slewing the TGP to the markpoint is the only way of getting this behavior.

Yep, just tried that myself. Weird cause you can slew the cursor in the HUD when the HUD is SOI and make that SPI to slew the TGP there.

if you are near the target (within HUD TDC cue range), you can designate a point on the ground TMS F long, then china hat forward long to slew all sensors including TGP. Turn your plane left to that point and start looking with the right wing TGP. that is what I do mostly. TAD needs hookable object like you said. that object is the simple cake of the HUD cursor.

While we're on this subject, whats the most efficient way to get the senors onto the ground when all you have are steerpoints? I've been doing the Weapons Training single mission a lot as that lets me fly around and test different techniques and weapons etc.

However when I "TMS UP and CHINA HAT FWD LONG", it always points at the steerpoint, in the sky... About 10,000 ft up, which makes it a bit hard to slew the camera down to the ground and find the target.

Surely I'm doing it wrong?

I watched a youtube video which says you can manually edit the elevation point in the CDU. However following that same process, it was already at zero.

Any help would be appreciated.

I usually just edit the elevation in the CDU to zero. You sure it was already at zero? I've edited the elevation on a ton of WP's before with no probs.

Or you just select that wappoint an check the distance.

Then you bring TGP to that point.

Now you move tgp down and check the distance. Once you have the same distance TGP and HUD, you have the correct position. It's not that precise, but pretty fast....

In the TAD (when SOI), you can move your cursor anywhere on the map and create a markpoint. Absolutely anywhere. It will sit on your TAD as a square. All you need to do then is slew your cursor into that box and do a TMS up to put the cake in there, then you can slew your TGP (when SOI) to it by china hat fwd long. Simples. It's really the same for using any point and slewing another sensor to it.

Cheers guys,

I'll give that a go.
