IJammer Posted March 18, 2013 Author Posted March 18, 2013 Did you try to attach a file? Or add a link? Yes... it did not work :( it was an artricle about the GA-GAU-8 GE Gattling gun... I can't seem to get the article to upload (its an e-mail document), but I might be able to upload a JPG from it. More anon....
IJammer Posted March 18, 2013 Author Posted March 18, 2013 Ok, view the original post again and you should see the JPG... pity I can't upload the whole artical... its very interesting.
FreeFall Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 I think that picture is kinda well-known among many forum members. You can find it in wikipedia as well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GAU-8_Avenger Anyway, it gives you some perspective of the size of the gun. No question about that.

Invader ZIM Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 What cichlidfan linked to, CDVS, they are a good site, didn't get my 30mm from them, it came from a neighbor's yard sale, but I purchased other small military collectables from CDVS and wasn't dissapointed.
cichlidfan Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 That was DM's link. I did just order from them though. If I have any issues with my order I will post. I need to spend some phone time with a couple of other vendors tomorrow anyway so I could add them to my list. Fjordmonkey Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Every time I see a yellor/red marked round I have to think back to my time in the RNoAF, where we had an airman bring a live 20mm HEI-round from the F16 up to his barracks and place it in the windowsill. He was working as a weaponhandler, and the round had fallen out of the bulker (Ammo-loading cart). Needless to say, I blew every single fuse I had when I saw it, but I was far, far outdone by the Officer of the Day. He was quite frankly nuclear with anger :P And yep, the GAU-8/A is one serious beast. 6 meters long with the drum attached, if memory serves me. Regards Fjordmonkey Clustermunitions is just another way of saying that you don't like someone. I used to like people, then people ruined that for me.

Now the next question would be: Even if they do ship to Germany, how big a fit will they throw at customs...? :D - Two miles of road lead nowhere, two miles of runway lead everywhere - Click here for system specs

Cookie Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Yup, that´s what they told me as well. In that case I´ll just have a friend of mine (from the US) order it and then ship it to me. I already contacted the local customs office, and they were surprisingly relaxed about it. The guy I talked to even knew the A-10 and the GAU-8, and he said all they want to see is that there is no propellant in the shell (and of course no explosives either). He told me it´s a good idea to drill a little hole into the side of the shell and also to maybe put two or three little metal balls (like those in spraycans) inside it, so anyone can shake it and see there is no propellant in there. Other than that they have no problems with it, it´s totally legal and all. I really didn´t expect that, considering the strict weapon laws over here. So yeah... the next step will be to try to order the GAU-8 itself, I guess... :D - Two miles of road lead nowhere, two miles of runway lead everywhere - Click here for system specs
