benargee Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Hey so i was just looking on Google maps in Georgia and noticed how accurately the airfields are compared to in game, it even looks like some have been re-purposed, battle damaged or upgraded, i have made a complete marked list of all available in game airfields. i hope you'll find this as interesting as i found it! DCS World IRL Georgian Theater Airstrips Icons are as follows according to DCS World Green markers: Military Aerodrome Blue markers: Civil Aerodrome (Military Joint User) Blue Airplane: Civil Aerodrome Red Warning: Airfield closed Satellite View recommended Enjoy! feel free to offer any corrections [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Call Sign: Pork Chop. intel I5 4670K @ 3.4GHz - GALAXY GTX 670 2GB @ 1080P - 16GB ( 2X8 ) Corsair DDR3 1600MHz - ASUS VG248QE 1080p ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VI HERO Mother Board - Samsung 840 Pro SSD 128GB(game/boot) - WD 640GB HDD 6.0GB/s - 750w Corsair Power Supply :yes:Trackir 5 w/ Tclip Pro - :joystick:TM HOTAS Warthog - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech G700s Mouse (edit:May19/14) http://wiki.benargee.com/
Tango Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 (edited) If you compare the actual terrain to DCS, it is also very close. The towns etc.. are where they are IRL, including the roads, railways and rivers. Best regards, Tango. Edited April 14, 2013 by Tango

Dr_Arrow Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Very nice, recently I have found that south-east of Rayevskaya is a big shooting range (it is northwest of Novorossiysk). Now I use that area for training missions.
seikdel Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Wow, Krymsk is in rough shape! Is that from the 2012 flood?
GripenNG Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Zoomed in at Lochini in Google Earth (pic date 28/12-2012), and by first glance it looks like one A-10 parked there! Though I don´t belive it really is one, but it would have been cool to see some Warthogs in Georgia! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Snooze-81st-vFS

Dr_Arrow Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 yes coords please couldn't find it in game or on google sorry, I haven't noticed the quote. The coords are: 44°48'18"N 37°35'41"E However, it is a whole training complex with many different shooting ranges, you can view it here: http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=44.810705&lon=37.591181&z=14&m=b It would be nice if someone could model the real shooting range there (something like KOTAR in BMS).
Dr_Arrow Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 (edited) And you can find even S-300 battery position at 44°55'20"N 37°25'15"E Old S-200 battery position at 44°56'8"N 37°31'37"E Another shooting range is directly in the perimeter of Mozdok Airbase: http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=43.780235&lon=44.596939&z=15&m=b Edited April 19, 2013 by Dr_Arrow

Hawk_5 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Gudauta isn't much better. Still in military use but looks like its been a very long time since anything aviation related has been there. Note not a trace of rubber on the strip and overgrown taxiways to aircraft bunkers that aren't in use. Lots of trucks parked there though and storage. Maybe a supply or engineering unit occupies it now?
