BaD CrC Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 OK. I can admit the Ka-50 can fly without the tail, but can you really do an autorotation with only a third of your blades length irl and survive? Because with DCS, you can.... https://www.blacksharkden.com http://discord.gg/blacksharkden
winz Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 except that the pilot and most of the important equipment are protected by armor...... AFAIK the only thing protected besides the pilot is the gearbox. Everything else is covered by light plating that can be penetrated even by small arms fire. Keep in mind that armour is heavy and you want that thing to fly and be maneuverable ;) The Valley A-10C Version Revanche for FC 3
Robert1983NL Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Even if the KA-50 can fly without a tail, it's virtually impossible that an impact severing that much airframe wouldn't spray the rest of the chopper with fatal amounts of shrapnel. So it's not quite right unless you were attacked with a laser/chainsaw. Nah. Some helicopters can take quite a beating. It's not impossible like you say at all.
Oznerol256 Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Apart from that kind of stuff, i think it is a pity that the Black Shark doesnt leave great debris like the A-10C after it is destroyed. This makes me do funny stuff in my missions (like using a trigger to destroy a static ka50 in order for the player to see the downed black shark) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
AlphaOneSix Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 AH-64 can fly with power on with no tail rotor thrust at around 90 knots.
maturin Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Nah. Some helicopters can take quite a beating. It's not impossible like you say at all. First of all, I never said it was impossible, just an unrealistic expectation. And 'helicopters can take a beating' is a meaninglessly vague statement applied to the most fragile machines ever used by mankind for war.
Haukka81 Posted May 8, 2013 Author Posted May 8, 2013 Nah. Some helicopters can take quite a beating. It's not impossible like you say at all. Nope, you think wrong if you think that Apache can take full brust of ZU-23 and fly etc.. It's very fragile, some armor in engines and some more in cocpit but side windows can't take many hits 14,6mm or smilar :book: maybe best armor is in hind and even that will come down if hit from manpad http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBJ8e_IVOO0 -haukka81 Oculus CV1, Odyssey, Pimax 5k+ (i5 8400, 24gb ddr4 3000mhz, 1080Ti OC ) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Davis0079 Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Back on topic....i like the damage model in this game and even though I have see some tight situations...make no mistake, my Ka-50 comes out of the sky like a bag of bricks from the slightest hits....so even though some screenshots are posted of you flying home with no tail, I feel you will learn to use the ejection seat more than you fly home crippled It only takes two things to fly, Airspeed and Money.
Kaktus29 Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 (edited) i would say choppers if armoured like hind, havoc and ka-50 can take hits and survive.. not always but getting hit in tail and if you have ka-50 i wouldn't say 100% destruction of engine, and blades is in the runs.. there were cases where hind was hit with a stinger in one of the engines and the chopper survived, pilots survived ..in fact it was like this that they came up with Igla, .. one of the warheads didn't explode, got stuck on it, they brought it back to base.. can't imagine the pilots talking to ATC.. "hei boys, we got something for you, from courtesy of CIA we bring you Stinger missile) wasn't this the same way Atoll was modelled?.. after it was jammed in Mig-19 or Mig-21 in Vietnam? .. sobek Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Let's keep the politics off the board. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Pikey Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 This argument is like saying if a person was shot by a gun they wouldn't survive. Then it turned into something about religion. Can we at least stay close to topic for sanitys sake? I'd be more interested in the loss of half a blade as the OP suggested they were surprised at. the tail sounds perfectly physically acceptable to lose, a blade sounds much worse, is it possible to fly with half a blade gone and how much tolerance is there for this? ___________________________________________________________________________ SIMPLE SCENERY SAVING * SIMPLE GROUP SAVING * SIMPLE STATIC SAVING *
