KennethBF Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Can I use Windows 8 for DCS? Is it any problems with W8 for DCS? W7 VS W8 ? Thick8 Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I use Windows 8 64bit with no problems at all. I came strait from Vista so I can't comment on Windows 7. cichlidfan Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I know there are definitely a few folks that feel there is even some improvement with DCS on Win 8 though I don't think anyone has attempted any actual tests. I don't recall anyone coming up with any significant issues or problems either. Chippy Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 I would say that Windows 7 is the better one to choose, but for DCS, I have found that I have actually had almost no problems what so ever on Windows 8, been using it for about 2 or 3 months and I can say truthfully that DCS has not crashed on me a single time, so I would go for 8 if I were you. tothesky Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 Think of windows 8 as a interface change mainly. The design is suited for touch screen monitors too. Besides that its mainly still the same. Office 2013 just hit the market and it is basically THE SAME as 2010. http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/have-office-2010-dont-buy-office-2013-heres-why/
PoleCat Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 IMHO Windows 8 x64 runs DCS and everything else I have thrown at it very, very well. After months of using it I can honestly say it is every bit as stable as Windows 7 (perhaps even more so) with the extra new bits like the Metro screen and Charms bar thrown in for good measure. Using Classic Shell or a similar utility allows you to use the OS from the desktop just like Windows 7 while your exploring and experimenting with the newer interfaces. I have found absolutely no good reason not to opt for Windows 8 if given the choice. It performs very well as a home entertainment gaming platform and a business workstation in a workgroup or domain environment and I have used it extensively in these scenarios. I am not sorry at all to have moved form Windows 7 to Windows 8. It has been a positive move in all respects. Out http://www.104thphoenix.com/
Cake Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 If I were building a new rig and had to buy a Windows OS then I would go with 8, but if you already have a stable Windows 7-64 install then paying to go to Windows 8 seems like a waste. windows 7 64 bit is fine. 6700K@4.6 48Gb - 1080Ti Hybrid - Warthog - RIFT
Madone Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 ^^^ this If you're on Win 7 64bits I don't really see the point of buying Win 8, unless you really want Win 8 for its features, but if it's just for DCS, it's a waste.
