I find it easier to hover and land with the Hotas Warthog between my legs.

Wish it did not center by itself.

And landing in F3 view, gives me a better feeling of the flight attitude and closeness to ground.

Maybe because of the shadow.

Anybody with same preferations ?

Crashing now is history. Did They mess too much with the flightmodel to make it more

approachable ? Hope not and think not, but have to ask!

Thanks

According to EB they have not made changes to the flight model since the initial release. However, the tester's version apparently does have some changes to the flight model that we will not see until some future patch.

I fly with my warthog like that. I just done the spring mod last night to my Warthog and let me say it is great. No longer need to use force trim and can fly using a light touch on the stick.

“Shiny Switch Method”

:thumbup:1. You only need to flip the switches that are shiny. Someone before you figured out those make the aircraft work no need to second guess it.

:(2. Never fly an aircraft with a shiny ejection handle.

Thanks for that. I'll do the same this weekend.

Thanks! the spring mod made it so much easier to fly! For others wanting to do this, just google for:warthog spring mod and you'll find some advice on youtube. Brain dead simple to do.

Ditto done mine yesterday and its so much easier to fly the huey now I am no longer having to fight the spring tension and isn't that spring a big one looks like it comes from a car or lorry suspension.

Lubed mine up to using some Dye slick lube its so much smoother to with that stuff instead of the stock lube from TM which is like chewing gum and oh so sticky.

I have TM Cougar with ball bearings installed and springs removed, also in the "inappropriate" position :smilewink:

Can you expand on this? I'm interested to hear about what it involves. Thanks.

There are a bunch of mods available for purchase to make Cougar be more like Warthog (hall sensors etc.). The problem as I see it is that some of the mods cost as much (or close to) a Warthog.

At this point in time, there is no mod that will make the 'Warthog' like a U2NXT Cougar, none, nothing nada, which in my opinion is epic for the Huey.

I own both of these Hotas ('s,, s ?)

The U2NXT was expensive but it transformed a 'nice looking and functional hotas' to a nice looking and very nice responding one. The stock Cougar gimbles are poor, really poor.

The U2NXT for the Cougar gives you perfect feel. The Hog, and I said it when I bought it, has the irritating indent off center that requires that little bit of extra force to move it, which for flying the Huey, sucks.

The Hog for the A-10 is great, (plug and play and all) and the amount of precision required during normal flight is not to the level required of the Huey.

You can control a U2NXT Cougar with 1 or 2 fingers absolutely precisely, not the Hog.

I'm busy talking to my mates in the engineering field to try and come up with something that we can insert into the Hog, with different springs, to even out the movement off the center.

I also looked at that mod (had Cougar) but the Warthog throttle and associated buttons/switches is what sold me. And by removing the main spring and moving up some support springs, it is now perfect for flying the Huey. I almost ordered the Cougar mod, but the throttle is what won me over (among other things. Thurstmaster really screwed up with the Cougar, that's for sure.

Sure man, with you on that.

I bought the hog hotas to fly the the A-10.

I would never of done it had my microswitch on the Cougar (radar slew) not decided to call it a day around the same time the A-10 was released on Beta.

So I bought the Hog, as well as replacement parts for the modded Cougar at the same time.

Really stoked with the Hog Hotas and the A-10, its pretty seamless. No complaints.

Now, a year or so down the line, I finally replaced the Microswitch in the Cougar as I have traded it out for some headsets with another user on these forums.

After fixing them and doing a few tests with some of the DCS modules I'm kinda miffed that I am parting with this modded Hotas, in its modded form its epic, really smooth man.

Eventually I will replace the whole gimbal inside, but at this time I used all the components as a testing rig - I wanted to test if we really have to invest in costly precision ball bearings. So I dissasambled the whole gimbal and played a bit with a drill and files, to fit cheap automotive ball bearings:

Those cost me around $0.50 a piece. I've also removed springs, and I'm currently waiting for a custom made set that is 30% of the original strength. Also replaced the central axis with one made out of brass going through two 7mm ball bearings originally from airsoft gun (6mm ones would be better). Also smoothed out all contacting surfaces and where parts work with each other - put some Teflon tape. So far, so good, the stick smoothed out nicely.

Next: longer arm, to achieve 10" deflection at the handle on both axis. I will be also doing a collective and side panel for the pedestal and overhead controls.
