The mission itself is straightforward and simple because all the target bunkers are at one of the 6 waypoints. However, the starting location is only a few thousand feet above the sea and somewhere off to the players 10:00 o-clock are a bunch of SA-11s hiding out in a clearing several miles away.

My hope is to clear out all the AA with Mavs before bombing the bunkers. But I cannot engage them. I tried skimming the treetops at 700 feet (not advisable) but they saw me coming and got a barrage off instantly. I then tried from 22000 feet and kept getting stung ( I can't even find them using the TGP.)

Frustrating. How do I get these SA-11s?? I know how to manouever to dodge them using the 3/9 tactic and countermeasures and it's working well, but I run out of countermeasures almost immediately... there's gotta be 5 of those damn things out there.

Turn around and climb, once above the AAA and MANPADS just stay east of the river. Hit the first bunkers with bombs and come off east each time and then use mavericks to hit the bunkers as much as possible.

ANd FYI,k if you're going do low level, do 50 feet low level, otherwise you're setting yourself up for everyone.

Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

IIRC the defenses become stronger the further you progress inland, so you should select weapons by stand-off range: LGBs first, then JDAMs and finally Mavs. As Jona said, always attack from the south and egress south or south-east ASAP. :joystick:

After getting my arse handed to me by air defense once or twice, I never again failed the mission doing the above. Engaging the AD itself is pretty much a waste of time and ammo, unless you want to specifically train this type of attack.

If your going after BUKs get some speed up. Come in with a slight nose down attitude rather than level or up. Shoot and scoot! You need some altitude - find the BUK radar(s) on the TGP and get those first. But watch out for the launchers - they can launch by themselves, after their radar is destroyed. I think they have acquisition capability but not as good as their radar.

By the way, I managed to destroy the radar antenna using the way forum member Evil.Bonsai described (read below). It's very difficult though! And it's even kinda hard to find that sucker with TGP. So, when you eventually find it, write down the coordinates for the next time (cheating... :music_whistling:). You won't nail the bastard with your first attempt, that's for sure :)

The 2nd way is WAY more fun and VERY tricky.Using the TGP, find and mark the radar site's radar antenna. Now, drop to water level (as in, you will be swimming if you take your eyes off the screen) Once you hit land, stick to the tree tops, but avoid the buildings. Now, to get the fastest, positive lock with a maverick (I'd HIGHLY suggest the IR model), you need to get a bit close to that radar. I won't say 5 miles, but certainly less than 10. Once you think your in range enough, pop up, lock the mav to radar and release weapon. Dive back down and turn, keeping as low as possible without hitting the ground. Once you take the radar out, the launchers will just sit there as they won't be able to do anything. Now, go back to the river and take out the targets at your leisure, but still stay high over the AAA and MANPADS.

if you always keep your plane on the south side of the river, there should be be no problem with the BUK.

So destroy bunker 1 and turn south. prepare for bunker 2, goto north and destroy bunker 2, then imediately turn south again.

In theory it is 6 bunkers waiting for 6 mavericks.... or you just turn south and rearm the plane.

TAKE YOUR TIME

PLAN WHAT YOU ARE DOING

DO IT

--> EGRESS SOUTH

Well I beat it, but it wasn't any of those ideas.

I ended up zooming in within BUK range to get a TGP lock, ran the heck outta there with 3 missiles on me, blowing chaff and evasive manoeuvers. I couldn't get in MAV range but by deeking in and back out and manoeuvering each time they finally expended all their missiles.

I think I got lucky.

Hehe...thanks! I think I managed this twice. Maybe I should try it again.

Fly high 16000 + stay over or east to the river turn away after each attack, let the sam's fire away and just watch those sucker's come your way and explode safely out the way, take out all the bunkers when mission complete sam's will have fired off all they got you can if you want go take em out @ your leisure .... but !! ..... watch out they sometimes rearm.
