Hopefully this is the proper place for this. I did search for this answer but found nothing.

I stumbled on DCS World about a week ago. I put aside simming for about 3 years to concentrate on other life distractions and was so pleasantly surprised to learn that ED made good on their vision to create DCS World. I own DCS Black Shark 1, and have always gravitated to "study" sims vs. mid-level.

Now that I'm getting back into the swing of things, I decided to purchase FC3 due to the variety of airframes available to check out. I am playing around with the A10 and also see that there's the DCS version as well. I am curious on this one ... is there some sort of comparison document somewhere that explains the differences between the FC3 version of the A10 and the DCS version?

I am used to the interactive cockpits and AFM, but don't see what else is different. Can I do all the same missions in a FC3 A10 that I can on the DCS version? Deploy all the same weapons? Control all the same systems? Or is the FC3 version somehow "dumbed down" (not meant as a negative) version of the DCS A10?

Thanks!!

The A-10 in FC3 is an A-10A whereas the A-10 in DCS:World is an A-10C. Huge difference in avionics etc...

The FC3 version is indeed a "dumbed down" sim compared to the DCS:World version. The flight models are different and the cockpit in the FC3 version is not clickable. Plenty of other differences as well but those should give you the idea.

If you prefer study sims then the DCS:A-10C is the one you want.

You can fly them both in MP missions (if you have the modules) thanks to DCS:World.

What do you mean "What's wrong with peole's manners" ?

Youtube has videos that will show the difference clearly,

Sarge55 directly answered the question,

A look at the manual will show the depth of simulation in the DCS.A10C module (& I provided a link) ...

All helpfull and informative answers I though...

More friendly and helpfull than your gift of a negative rep.

Thanks .

FC3 A10 is the A version whit old avinoics

DCS A10 is the C version whit updated avionics

Two totally different planes, and i guess that if you want to know the difference between DCS A10C and FC3 A10A one would be best off simply

studying the differences between an A10C and an A10A.

Then add the fact of clickable cockpit plus AFM for the A10C and you have your answer.

(as for weapons employment, you could open up the mission editor, add a plane of each type, and see what weapons are available to each station.)

Not sure what's with everyones manners today.

If you want high-fid best going for DCS A10, the FC3 one's are basic without all the whistles and bells and knobs to turn.

But they still use the AFM and can do most things just not as big learning curv

Thanks Killa

I wouldn't have even thought to search YouTube for this, but maybe that's a general expectation these days. I appreciate everyone's advice. It helps.

The manual is exactly what I'm after, thanks!!

I my squadron the saying goes: DCS:A-10C is for pilots, whereas FC3 is for "pilots".

Let's get serious here. I only know the A10A from Flaming Cliffs and as I understand the current FC3 A10A is basically that with a 6DOF cockpit and maybe an AFM.

So my advice would be: GET THE DCS:A-10C!!!!! That thing kicks ass, blows your socks off and makes you look good! :)

It has such a deep level of complexity you can learn something new everyday. And it uses modern technology which gives you so much more in terms of weapons available, situation awareness, target acquisition - in short: gaming quality.

I flew the A10A in FC back in the days, it was my main aircraft and I liked it. But the DCS:A-10C is sooooo much better.

If you want to be a pilot instead of a "pilot" go with DCS:A-10C

As far as I know the A-10A never actually got the advanced flight model. Still scripted stall and landing behaviour. You can feel the difference when you fly them both. Basically DCS A-10C is about as real as you can get without stealing a real A-10. On the other hand I could teach my mum to fly the FC3 A-10A in about an hour.

A-10C is study sim nirvana. A-10A is sim lite. I've got 100+ hours just trying to learn some of the systems in the A-10C so I can bear guns on baddies, there's so much more for me to learn if I wanted to.

I checked out the manual - briefly as this puppy is 671 Pages!

No doubt the DCS variant is light years ahead of FC3. The level of immersion for the 10C is what I had come to expect from these Study sims. I liked how Purg and Dongir both put it:

"Study Sim Nirvana" and "Pilots go with the 10C". I totally get it.

Sorta wish I hadn't done the impulse buy on FC3. I'll chalk it up to funding the F18 sim and other future endeavors

Thanks for all the opinions guys!
