Nybble Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 Hi there, I'm trying to optimize my configuration for the best graphics : fps ratio, however while looking though similar threads I have found alot of the suggestions are outdated, some as far back as FC2! Can someone point me in the direction of some tweaks useful for the latest version of DCS:World? Thanks ! DCS Multiplayer Highlights Reel -
TZeer Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 (edited) Whats your config? Here is a few links. Some of the threads can be quite long, but it gives a good understanding of how DCS works, and what can give you a performance boost. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=101083 http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=101459 http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=103578 http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=101186 http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=101491 Edited May 19, 2013 by TZeer

DaVidoS Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 (edited) Hi. This is my first post. Unfortunately i am on AMD Phenom x4 @3Ghz + AMD Radeon HD 7950 (Tahiti) + 6Gb RAM and I get 15 FPS. Setting low, middle, high on system settings give no changes. Is any trick to fix fps? Please help me , cant fly. I waiting on AMD FX 8350... Did this brings me a more FPS? Edited May 26, 2013 by DaVidoS
hollywoodvillain Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 (edited) DaVidos, don't bother, I have FX8350, ATI 7870x2 crossfire, and running DCS off a RAMdrive. I have spent countless hours testing every possible setting I can find. I have scoured the forums and tried almost every tip available. I have over clocked the living crap outta my system. I have tried this on multiple setups involving i5's, i7's and Fx's ATI, Nvidia, and different MOBO's that blow every other game outta the water. Nothing. nadda. every system i've tested so far has consistantly poor fps with DCS (and to be clear, avg 30FPS i consider poor for a flight sim). Sometimes it runs smooth for a few min, but looking in certain directions, flying over certain terrain, seeing certain effects, ect at some point always brings these power systems to their knees. AtaliaA1 Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 I find Hollywoodvillains' statement hard to digest. (not saying it is not true) I use an i7 920 (stock speed), an AMD 9550 with 2gigs of video ram. the only time I had issues was with less than 2gigs of video ram. I did over clock for a while just to see how it would run not enough to matter. Video output and resolution play a large factor in FPS. for some set ups. But remember some users are on old systems and having a ball with this software everyday. This was a Boutique Builder iBuypower rig. Until I got the tinker bug again i7 920 @3.6Mhz 12Gig Corsair XMS3 ram 1600 Nvidia 760 SLi w/4Gig DDR5 Ram Intel 310 SSD HDD 160 Gb + Western Digital 4Terabyte HDD Creative SB X-Fi HD Audio Logitech X-530 5.1 Surround Speaker System Dual Acer 32"Monitors. You're definitely in a solid ballpark here with your weak link being the 480 obviously. Don't get me wrong thats a great card and people use it and enjoy the sim but If I were looking to upgrade that's where I would start. Try turning your screen size down a bit- I've found that helped me out (I'm running a 980x @4.1 and a gtx 680). This sim is about fast components- the 980 does nothing for me. Faster is better than more in this case. 4ghz is pretty competitive though you have some room on your 2600k if you have cooling for it. ASUS M5A99FX Gigabyte UD3990FX ASUS P7P55D ASUS P8P67 Deluxe These are just a few components I've tested recently (in various combinations). I run a PC repair business and build gaming PC's for all my friends so I have the opportunity to test many different systems and configurations, and do so with DCS whenever I have the chance. These have been tested only with FAST HDD's (usually in RAID 0's) or SSD's. Tested with 8-32GB of RAM. All machines tested on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 with DCS installed to default location (c:\program flies\Eagle Dynamics,... except for my current system running it on RAM drive). Without backtracking too far to remember, I have tried most of the various tweaks (limiting FPS, removing smoke, reducing particle effects, ECT...) in addition to the standard and recommended graphics tweaking in windows, Nvidia control panel, ATI control panel and in game. (Pretty much tried every possible setting so far in both control panels ATI, Nvidia...) Its absolutely pitiful. Loading mission "Hideout" for A-10, Straight ahead was a legit 50-60fps, but looking to the LEFT yielded min 18-20FPS on high settings and a pathetic min 28-30FPS with EVERYTHING graphics as LOW as possible. And that's starting INSIDE a hanger! Try it! I promise I'm not making this up, I wish I was. And to make it clear I do still play DCS all the time. LOVE IT. Live, breathe, eat, sleep, smoke and poop this sim, even if I have to deal with poor framerate sometimes. EDIT- Speeds listed are stock, most have been OC'd wherever applicable and I generally only use water for cooling Edited May 30, 2013 by hollywoodvillain
Wolf Rider Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 (edited) all well and good... rant not necessary though Op Sys and install location appear to be W7 64 bit to default location? hmmmm... you do realise windows has file protection system on C:\ Program Files (both flavours) , eh? Try upping the sim root folder (user) security to Full Control (even try this if installing, the better situation, to a separate drive or outside of C:\Program Files) any luck with your vga card settings? (not what the card is but what settings you use... such as Anti-Aliasing/ Anisotropic Filtering etc (without a rant would be nice though :) ) Edited May 30, 2013 by Wolf Rider City Hall is easier to fight, than a boys' club - an observation :P "Resort is had to ridicule only when reason is against us." - Jefferson "Give a group of potheads a bunch of weed and nothing to smoke out of, and they'll quickly turn into engineers... its simply amazing." hollywoodvillain Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Oh sorry didn't mean to sound like a rant. In fact this isn't even my thread and I'm not really looking for help. Just wanted to post what my results have been for the rest that are curious. However, as for your advice of UAC/Access control on program files, I have tried c:\DCS, also my RAM drive (f) would negate that anyway, and I would like to be enlightened as to how this would effect fps once the game is loaded and running. And I've spent a lot of time testing aa, af, vsync, filtering, tessellation, cpu BIOS tweaking ect, some of it my own ideas, some of it advice peppered around this forum. Have you tried the mission and did as I suggested? What were your results? I would really love to find someone here that has a smooth flying experiance 90% of the time, even if its a $5000 rig I would like to know what it takes

TZeer Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 I have a smooth flying experience 90%+ of the time :) Yes, 60 FPS stable.
DaVidoS Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 (edited) Thanks for reply! Curently i am after system upgrade and now i get ~45 FPS on medium settings + HD res, unfortunately with short freezes under fight. Low settings give me no more FPS. The weird things is that: I do load monitoring for CPU and GPU under flight DCS and looks like the DCS does not use the 100% capabilities of my system. Running something about 60%. Weird. My system: OctalCore AMD FX-8350@4500 MHz (DCS load ~60%) ASRock 990FX Extreme3 8Gb DDR3-1333 7-7-7-20 CR2 65.6 ns Read speed: 18890 MB/sek Write speed: 17112 MB/sek Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 GPU 950MHz 3Gb GDDR5 1250Mhz (DCS load ~50%) DCS instaled on drive D:/ AMD 2+0 Stripe/RAID0 (463 GB) random read speed ~ 130 Mb/s Win7 x64 Freetrack 6dof 75 FPS Well i don't knew for sure if there is problem with my system computing power, i thing there is problem with DCS and his optimization. There is a big rison that the best flight sim which i knew has not too many users as well. Sorry for my english Edited June 9, 2013 by DaVidoS
