Fuzzy_bear
Ok so I've seen it's possible to create your own 3d object and put them in the game. How? and with what would I "repaint" a structure or vehicle? also, would somebody be willing to help me put it in the game so I can have it in the drop down menu of the ME to add the same way i can go to the menu structure:FARP Tent.... and then place it where i want it. The ME has no "medical" military vehicles or structures. All I'm really after is a tent like the FARP tent but with a nice big red cross on the top and maybe a transport truck or two or a jeep type vehicle to use as "scenery" to enhance game immersion. *Do any such repaints already exist? *If yes where could i find it? *How do I put it in the game? *will everybody have to have the "repaint" like an aircraft skin to see it? Thanks in advance.
pakfront
I'm curious too, and I was hoping someone with more knowledge than me would reply. However, since nobody did, II assume you looked at the pdf here? http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1291732&postcount=1 This covers adding a 3d object. But I take it you just want to skin an existing tent and have it show up as a new object in the mission editor. I'm sure you could follow the directions in the pdf, and just copy the existing tent EDM model to one with a new name, and create a new texture to work with it. *will everybody have to have the "repaint" like an aircraft skin to see it?I think everyone will have to have your EDM and texture, plus custom db_countries.lua, db_units_ground.lua, and StructTable.sht. If that is the case, it hardly seems worth the hassle. /edit I think you could to put the MASH skin in Bazar/TempTextures, but then all tents would have it. I don't think you can just add a skin for one instance of a static object. Actually, I may be wrong (good!). There is a static object here that does not seem to require hacking lua files: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/218172/ you might be able to use that as an example, using the existing FARP EDM file and your own texture. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=96165 Edited May 31, 2013 by pakfront
Grimes
As I understand it the mods folder allows you to add in units, buildings, aircraft etc to the sim without the need to modify the different db files. You essentially mimic the file structure of the sim within the custom mod folder and point to all of the relevant files for the model, textures, etc. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. crazyeddie
Fuzzy Bear There is a way, but it does involve a HUGE amount of work to the Shapes and Structures folders, and the associated files that deal with those items. Sadly each time there is an update you have to do it all again, so it's not really a viable option yet. Here is an example of what you can achieve with it: Batumi Babushara Beslan I appreciate these are not perfect with regard to placement of objects etc, but they are no worse than the originals. Fuzzy_bear
Thx for the replies guys. Seems a medic tent as a static object is going to have to be a wishlist item for the future. Was merely hoping for a little more immersion in terms of a visual prompt other than smoke. Just thought it would be a nice touch to add into missions considering the mission possibilities of med-evac of troops with the Huey. Maybe in time ... ED Team NineLine Posted June 6, 2013 ED Team Share Posted June 6, 2013 Have you tried setting up a folder in the Mods directory and doing it that way? I have a couple mods I am playing with and are unaffected by updates... crazyeddie
Cheers Sith I was going to try and find out how that Mod's folder works, would I be right in thinking that if I change a Vehicle in the Shapes folder all I have to do is create a new Shapes folder inside Mods and put my changed vehicle in there. Update happens but the changes in the Mods folder still take precedence over the update. If it is that easy then perhaps this could be a runner after all. ED Team NineLine Posted June 6, 2013 ED Team Share Posted June 6, 2013 I am no expert for sure, you will have to change the lua file to point to your shape, etc. But I dont see why it wouldnt work. Currently I have a 88 in game that is not much more than a static object right now :) You can use this as a base, then rename as needed to get your stuff to work. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1692869&postcount=232 I would imagine you could do multiple structures under one folder as well, but I have not attempted personally.
