i upgraded my pc today ended up actually losing frames somehow in the process. all other applications however have gained performance.

was running this..

Windows 8 Pro 64-bit (6.2, Build 9200)

MS-7390

AMD Phenom 9750 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs), ~2.4GHz

8192MB RAM

AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series

almost no change, i never looked at my frames with the original setup but with the setup below with details switched to low I am lucky to get 30fps. It doesnt seem to have improved much at all performance wise.

does this seem right?

Windows 8 Pro 64-bit (6.2, Build 9200)

GA-990FXA-D3

AMD FX-8320 Eight-Core Processor (8 CPUs), ~3.5GHz

8192MB RAM

AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series

any ideas would be great..:music_whistling:

If it's not a driver problem it might be the new cpu. I have been disappointed with he FX series too when i got mine.

They have high clock speeds and alot of cores which is great for stuff like video rendering but they are very poorly optimized for gaming.

sry I couldn't help myself

Fixed ;)

Performance issues with DCS (if you don't have a super-duper i7) are such a dead horse I'd be surprised if there weren't maggots growing by now.

Surely it wouldn't actually be worse than a 6 year old AMD though.

edit:

especially when SkateZilla with basically the same system is getting what looks like a really smooth frame rate -

installed all the latest drivers.

also i would just like to point out that these tests are done whilst all my graphics settings are on low and off.

the only thing i havent done yet is reinstalled DCS. :helpsmilie:

I believe that the game runs some optimizations when you install it so a re-install may make a big difference in performance... (And no way that your old CPU would be faster than the new one.. I have used BOTH of these and there is a substantial boost in performance with the new one) And yes I know it doesn't compete with the I7, I am simply stating that just comparing the 2 CPU's the new one will kick the old one's ass... (Re-install DCS and try again..)

I wonder what SkateZilla did to his system. I'm on a ~4 year old AMD processor running a fairly high clock speed and still have issues.

I've heard the Phenom is actually better than the FX in some applications. Besides DCS runs on 2 cores anyway and one is for sound. The other used core is for everything else.

Do you have mirrors on by any chance?

no, no mirrors.. infact im starting to think that this isnt only just a DCS problem but also a problem with my actual setup. in the process of reinstalling os to make sure its not software/driver related. :(

Solved

turns out the problem was at my end. after a lot of mucking around I found this.

http://bitsum.com/about_cpu_core_parking.php

i did not bother installing this ParkControl64 from this site but after reading briefly about CPU parking i went to my power saving options. under processor power management i set minimum processor state from 5% to 100%. now i'm averaging over 60fps. apparently setting your minimum state to 5% means only ever use 5% of your max processor potential. who would have guessed?

thanks guys.. :noexpression:

Reinstalling everything after a upgrading CPU and Mobo is best cos technically it is a new PC.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

That's a really nice find!

Ditto! I just unparked the cores and turned off HT, I actually gained 8fps or so with my setup. But I lock it at 30fps, and it doesn't stutter anywhere near as much as it did before. Haha!

Can't believe I hadn't heard of this before.

Dude with your setup - that huge CPU and huge videocard! you should be locking the frames at 60fps minimum! you have a beast of a pc good sir :)

I'm running 4 monitors, so unfortunately I'm bound to locking at 30 to keep it smooth. Otherwise with the odd fps hits; frames jump from 30-43 fps; and that causes some annoying stutter with the frame rate jumps below 60.

Thinking of going back to single screen on a 50" TV; Life-like size view.. mmm, and get some frames back!

You would be looking at stable 60 FPS then with the proper settings.

Do it.. do it.... DO IT!!!

With a 50-55" TV do you mean?

I just read your other thread with SLI benefits so now the wallet is going to be burning.
