P-51D Server Bulletins

Disabling ffb means that the stick is entirely limp, like using a spring loaded joystick without any springs.

 

I'm trying to find a workaround, but so far no luck. 1.2.6 has grounded me.

Did you try using simffb?

Yes. I tried subbing it for the standard FFTest file, and also tried running it outside the sim from the desktop. Running it outside the sim was my last ditch attempt, and it would change the centering position of the joystick during a dogfight with the AI 190, as if someone were grabbing the stick and jamming it fully aft, or to the side.

 

My joystick works great with every other flight sim I own.

That's a shame. Sorry man. Was it a known issue that they were changing FFB functionality? In the change log?

Guys,

Just so you are aware. I went ahead and reverted my server and client side to 1.2.5 to accommodate the Friday Dogfight session. It performed drastically better and the server hasn't crashed in almost 20 hours. I plan on keeping it at 1.2.5 until we have a reasonable/stable alternative. The method to revert is quite simple if you choose to go that route. The instructions are found here...

Also, as another option to all the veterans and combat greenhorns out there

I am going to host a WWII themed combat dogfight session every Saturday on my server. We have chosen to begin at 9pm Zulu. All are welcome no matter your proficiency with the P-51D. We are looking to establish a competitive but friendly environment that we can all enjoy going forward. The server will be administered and we will do our best to ensure things are kept fair and balanced.

That was fun. We had quite a long session with some good fights.

 

Couple thoughts:

 

1. For a few minutes we had about 7-8 players, but mostly just 3-4. We ended up furballing over a single base because the action was very thin.

 

2. I never glimpsed an enemy signature on the f10 map. Maybe extend the contact radius for where these show up?

I'm glad you guys had fun. I was annoyed I couldn't be there.

And yes, hopefully we can increase the participation next time.

We had the map set up for "Allies only" but we may go back to Fog-of-war. However, if there are no AI units you will not see the enemy icons anyways.

I hated the idea of rolling back but glad it's been much more stable. I'm sure you are not the only FFB guy that was dead in the water and I hope it gets resolved soon.

 

It seems like a critical time to focus on stability. We will lose a lot of flyers if those crashes persist on the latest update.

EDIT: Just did some work over Teamviewer. Server should be running David's Fight Night missions now. I won't be participating tonight but I hope everyone enjoys it. I'll try to check on the server when I can.

You are right. When I arrived home it was crashed...again. I spent some time with it this afternoon and I think I ironed out all of the issues. I had upgraded the server with an SSD the day I left for my trip. I was in a bit of a hurry and forgot a few things that I learned the first time around. It should be all set up and solid now... but let me know if you see otherwise. I flew on it a bit today and I've been watching it. (Still running 1.2.5)

Hey guys,

In an attempt to get the ball rolling with possible server solutions and a place for us all to call home for our beloved Mustang and the other thoroughbreds on their way to the stable, we wanted to create a flyers bulletin type thread. There are a bunch of us that want this to become more than a novelty item and would like to push towards a solid foothold where the WW2 community within the DCS family can settle in.

 

So, we had an initial pow-wow today and Mr. MACADEMIC came up with a suggestion to start a thread to basically give a heads up when individuals plan on hosting personal servers and such. Unfortunately, I've noticed there aren't too many us who can play all day every day so hopefully this can help a little towards organized sessions and foster some good camaraderie.

 

For example,

Today DAVID RED was kind enough to create a pretty awesome mission and host it on his machine. At 16:00 GMT we met up on FLYING LEGENDS (Great name by the way, David) and spent some time chatting and tearing around the landscape. I know personally, I've spent too much time punching that SEARCH button in MP looking for ANYTHING that says P-51 :megalol: So it will be good to know what's going on.

 

This is the infancy, but I do believe ED has opened Pandoras Box by offering WW2 aircraft and with the obvious scope of this project I think we all can help move it in the right direction. If this Bulletin Board concept exist somewhere else in the forum please let me know and we can go there.

I see Merlin-27 has a dedicated server up in Multiplayer. I have not been playing anything DCS for awhile.

 

I dog-fought some when P-51D was in Beta, have not since, because few people are interested in combat. Flying with SAMs active is a bit of a joke. Nice to see the possibility of a WWII era map and activities is coming in the near future from what I read will be DCS WWII 1944, re: Merlin's server reference URLs.

 

I pretty much have forgotten, even how to start it, let alone fly it. But I have my notes and my CH Manager profile I created for the controllers. So, I will be stopping by if disciplined combat sorties is the goal.

 

I sim-flew Aces High air combat for 5 years until the arcade HO-ers were the norm. Figure all the guys that used to fly Air War back in the 1980's on the Genie server, then WarBirds, Aces High, and at least two other WWII air combat sims since then. There is definitely a market for it, though some of those guys shy away from the intense study-aircraft like DCS has. The DCS P-51D is a lot less intense than the Warthog or the Shark to learn.

Currently running David's new mission "Home Invasion!" and I upgraded the server to 1.2.6.186 this morning. Hopefully it will help solve some of the stability issues.
