Dana
Is it worth buying Combined Arms only, with no intention of buying other modules ? For various reasons, including but not limited to, being a "ground warfare" guy and lacking proper hardware like hotas stick.
ED Team NineLine Posted June 28, 2013 ED Team Share Posted June 28, 2013 Well you cant beat the sales price right now. I have had a lot of fun with CA so far, you will be able to create missions, and join MP servers, provided they server has ground units set up for control by user, I would say if you really dig into it you could really get a lot out of it. Is it worth buying Combined Arms only, with no intention of buying other modules ? cichlidfan
At the sale price, it is fairly low risk. Dana
I don't know how Eagle Dynamics develops their games, but is there chance for adding more realism to CA, or the current features are set in stone ? I don't need Steel Beasts, but adding Thermal Imaging and Lasing to tanks wouldn't be a big deal. But you know, you are right. It's only $12. ED Team NineLine Posted June 28, 2013 ED Team Share Posted June 28, 2013 From the website: JTAC The Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) is an important role on the multiplayer battlefield, and it allows JTAC role players to designate targets for players in DCS aircraft. Using the binocular view, JTACs can use night vision goggles, thermal viewers, laser range finders, laser designators with programmable laser codes, IR pointer, and colored smoke to mark targets. The JTAC can be a true force multiplier. I don't know how Eagle Dynamics develops their games, but is there chance for adding more realism to CA, or the current features are set in stone ? cichlidfan
The key word in the JTAC description is 'multiplayer'. It is an important distinction that this capability does not exist in the single player game. martinistripes
I don't have CA so can't comment on actual gameplay. But... if it's something you might like, just buy it. The thing to remember when buying a DCS module is that you're not only getting the module as it is in it's current state. You're actually getting the module and all the continuous development and improvements that will come over several months/years. And with CA, I think you'll see a lot more new stuff being added, than with the more polished single aircraft modules. You'll more than get your moneys worth, I'm certain of that. :) Valve Index | RTX 3070 Ti (Mobile) | i7-12700H @ 2.7GHz | 16GB RAM
Dana
One more question then. I know that multiplayer server must run missions specifically designed to accommodate Combined Arms module and its roles. Are such servers common, or few and far between ? WildBillKelsoe
even though you dont have a stick, the hotas usage with CA is phenomenal.. AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow. Raven68
12 July 2013 - DCS News Update Other parts of our team are working on new elements for Combined Arms. Two of many new features includes a radar display for radar-guided air defense systems and more realistic fire control systems for armored units. I've attached an early work in progress image of the new radar display. From the above update. I think CA will become more attractive once this is implemented and more servers will be available for CA play also. I think its a great module as it stands currently also, but the possibilities are wide open. tads
I would just like to thank ED for implementing radar display on SAMS,the above picture is just what I would like CA to be.I also expect you will draw in additional support from those who like playing SAM-SIM. This has restored my faith in this module, sometimes I often had the feeling that it was the black sheep of the family and though it was overlooked regarding updates or any kind of improvement.Thx
