lunanera Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 I am currently working on a veeeeery big map of Crimea, making a collage from deatiled in-game screenshots of the map. I am doing this to enable me and my squadron to do some proper VFR training with our A-10's. What do you think? I say it :icon_supe This is the area I have mapped until now: (Removed big images) the detail of the map though is like this: (Removed big images)
Guest ThomasDWeiss Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 a very interesting project - go ahead.
britgliderpilot Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 Challenge for you - create a version that includes name labels of active airbases and the number and type of aircraft based there ;) Some info to start you off: http://forums.ubi.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/77610606/m/635109091/r/762106512 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg

lunanera Posted January 2, 2006 Author Posted January 2, 2006 Some excellent maps by 169th_Ice. http://169thpanthers.net/Forums/index.php?showtopic=478 Cheers Beautiful!! I am thinking of dividing the map into A4-paper-sized rectangles about 35x50miles and print them all out. I think that would be in just about the right detail.

Click on "Order of Battle" then click the Caucasus region. http://www.scramble.nl/ru.htm
4c Hajduk Veljko Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 What do you think? I say it :icon_supeI did something similar and my idea was to print it to a 4' X 4' wall map. Well, after I spent hours stitching the screenshots togather, none of the programs I have would print a 25mb big file. So, if you decided to print your map, let me know how you did it. lunanera Posted January 2, 2006 Author Posted January 2, 2006 update here is the kind of finished product i have in mind: (Removed big images) http://www.ilcilum.org/images/map_test.jpg for the full detail file. Looks to me like it's not got enough detail for good vfr & attack planning... The image is 19cmx28cm at 300dpi for printing in A4, though I haven't quite managed that yet. what do you think?
lunanera Posted January 2, 2006 Author Posted January 2, 2006 update ok, i've worked on it a bit more, and i've mapped this area of Crimea: (Removed big images) it is split up into 7 jpg files which are available here let me know if you find them useful, what you think of them and what you would like to see added/changed. First thing I'll do will be to re-write the names of most towns so as to make them legible. What I would then like is to add info to the map: stuff such as peak elevations, landmarks which can make navigation easier, maybe IPs of ILS paths.
lunanera Posted January 3, 2006 Author Posted January 3, 2006 I can't believe no one is as enthusiastic as I am about these maps... :( hog pilots where are you  well... just a bump so this doesn't fall waaaaaaaaaay down :icon_toil
ViperVJG73 Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Very cool! :D Best Regards Viper System: Intel Core i7-4790, 3,6GHz, 16GB RAM, 128GB SSD, 2TB HDD, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 2GB GDDR5, TM HOTAS Warthog;(MSFFB2 for testing); TrackIR4 +Track Clip Pro; Windows 10 Pro.
Vosxod Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 I cant download this thread page because of too big picture... Anyways, what are you going to do with this big pile of paper when you have it finished? Lay it in you backyard? :)
lunanera Posted January 4, 2006 Author Posted January 4, 2006 I cant download this thread page because of too big picture... Anyways, what are you going to do with this big pile of paper when you have it finished? Lay it in you backyard? :) it's not as big as you might think; all together it shoulb be no more than 12 or 13 A4 sides. What AM I going to do with it? I'm putting each printed sheet in a plastic folder, you know the ones you put in ringbinders. I bought a black and a red whiteboard marker so that I can write on the plastic folder and erase with my fingers, so as to plot temporary points of interest on the map (e.g. target location, IPs for attack run, threat zones, ecc.). After that... well, what more do I need to do? Anyways, I am adding much more detail to the maps (realistic markings for railways and power-lines, peaks, lighthouses, etc.), but I'll post them all together when they're finished. If you are serious about piloting your Hog or about VFR in general, maps are a MUST and I am sure you will enjoy these when they're ready.
Ezor Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Man you are doing a awesome job ! Can you make a map list only with links of the pictures ? It may be more easy to read ! 3rd-wing

I though about that so as not to have an E3 map which would be 95% sea. I do realise though that adopting this trick could lead to confusion when going from a map on coloumn D to a map on coloumn E.

Boberro Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Well, it'd be quite weird if they didn't after 8 years :D Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ

Harpoon Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Links all seem to be dead now :( 8 and a half year ressurection...WITCHCRAFT!!! If you want to talk to anyone about anything personal, send it to their PM box. Interpersonal drama and ad hominem rebuttal are things that do not belong on a thread viewed by the public. One thing i have to point out... naming a thread.. "OK, so" is as useful as tits on a bull.
