Ironhand Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Hi Folks, A quick heads up. I just uploaded a new tutorial to my website. This is a recording of the Su-27 Campaign's first mission. You are scrambling from Kasnodar-Pashlouskij tasked with stopping a surprise attack on your base and the surrounding area. The tutorial addresses quickly assessing the situation, general tactics, and some aspects of wingman control. It assumes that you already know the basics of radar operation, etc. With Voiceover. zaelu Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Thanks Ironhand, although is first time I post, I saw all your voice tutorials for 1.11 and I liked them all. Keep them coming if you have the time. About making them movies I was thinking about an alternative. One could record the video part at 1/4 speed at good quality then repeat the process at 1/1 speed but this time with graphic settings low and fraps set to record 1 fps per second but to record sound. Then rip the sound from the second run and merge it in a video editor with the video part. Then compress. The problem of hosting apears then as the video files tend to be large. Also, If you could make for 1.11 tracks with the Su25t weapons usage will be cool. I'm still training in 25t without weapons for now (yesterday I broked 20 nose tyres wheels and two wingtips trying to land with 8m/s lateral wind till I saw that I didnt have analog rudder :), then after correction I made 3 good landings in a row with ease :) ). Thanks again for your effort. Best regards. RedBear Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 I have a hell of alot with your tutorials. i think you souhld redo some of the old ones. your are a master of tutorials from the flanker 2.5 old days man keep them coming
Greenies Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 I haven't downloaded your tutorials for a while, since I haven't bought Flaming Cliffs yet. Haven't got time to play it right now, anyway. But it is nice to see that you're still pumping them tutorials out to the people, Ironhand. Every one I have watched in the past has been of very hight quality, and I will surely download and watch the more recent ones targeted at version 1.1 and 1.11 when I finally buy FC 1.1. It's been so long since I played LOMAC, that I will probably have to learn how to fly all over again :) Then your tutorials will really come in handy! Keep up the good work! DaddySchlich Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 Hi, Thanks for all your tutorials. On this one, however, I'm having a problem. I've run it three times - not touching any of the keys - and the main Su-27 has been hit by the first missile fired at it, with the time on the F2 bar at bottom of the outside screen reading 1/15:05:10, or just over 5 minutes into the track I've installed the patch to FC 1.11. Might that be the problem? Did you record using the base FC 1.11? Looking forward to your next tutorial - whether it be F15 refueling, or something else Thanks, Daddy Schlich
GoodCop Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 Ironhand, I have enjoyed your tutorials plenty in the past and just wanted to say thanks! You're a pro in how you design them and you're a great resource to the flight sim community. Have a suggestion for your nice site (in favour for the lazy like me): I'm missing an additional one click download where I can get a pack of all your current tutorials based on versioning of LockOn. Basically one up-to-date essential tutorial download for all new LockOn installations, whatever version. They're all worth getting, really, no matter what 'taste' in planes ppl may have.
Ironhand Posted January 22, 2006 Author Posted January 22, 2006 Hi all, Thanks guys. It certainly helps my motivation to know that people are both enjoying and benfiting from my work. Might that be the problem?... DaddySchlich, It was recorded with V1.11, so that's not the problem. Several people have reported the identical problem. So you're not alone. When I play it back, the missile (an AIM-7, IIRC) is spoofed by chaff. For you and several others (and possibly more that I haven't heard from) that's not happening and I take the hit instead. A2A tracks have historically been the most susceptible to playback quirks--many of which were hardware dependent. I believe the core problem is that this campaign mission was built with V1.1. It's okay to fly normally but an A2A recording evidently has some quirks that effect some people but not others. About the only fix would be to rebuild the mission from scratch with V1.11 and rerecord the flight. Basically one up-to-date essential tutorial download for all new LockOn installations, whatever version. GoodCop, That's something I might consider doing. The problem is needing to upload an updated package with each additional tutorial. Though it wouldn't be that much hassle to do on a monthly basis. You'd only be missing the current month's tutorials. Woodstock Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 I guess the fact that Rich gets shot down by missiles at several people playing the track comes from LOMAC´s track system. Those tracks record events like system settings and missile launches but not events like actual missile avoidances. I think that from the moment of the missile launch the playback game recalculates the kill probability anew from the missile´s and Ironhand´s behaviour. So maybe Rich´s manoeuvres lead to a 0,5% kill probability for the missile and this reflects in him getting killed on some people´s playbacks... Just a guess. I don't think the program plays dice with the missiles. If it did, then there would be far more variability in A2A track playbacks. I've never counted the number of missiles launches by both sides in that track. But enough were launched that, if it were a matter of "luck", there should be a somewhat different outcome each time you watch. But I've seen it all when it comes to track playback, including a period when those with AMD processors saw different outcomes to tracks than those running an Intel. The strangest things can happen due to the slightest burp in the track recording or playback. Sure would be nice if there were an extremely compact, high resolution codec for videos. DaddySchlich Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Ironhand, Thanks for the response. Nice to know that I'm not alone, but too bad that it doesn't work for me. Please keep your tracks/tutorials coming. I've always learned from them. Daddy Schlich
