kingneptune117 Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Hey all, So far I only have one DCS product (DCS: A-10C). I have this standalone and I did not purchase it on steam. However, I would like to have it on steam. Do I need to repurchase it on Steam or can I somehow activate it on Steam? I feel like this relates to the most recent community update but i'm not sure. joey45 Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 I believe the ability to do that is being talked about be ED and Steam. EDIT: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1835293#post1835293 We are also working with Steam to improve our presence there by: allowing activation of DCS Steam products from key purchase sources other than Steam; enabling Overlay, play time tracking, and achievements; and we hope to take advantage of Steam Workshop for items such as missions and campaigns. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Dav IRL Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 This would be awesome, no more "remaining keys". I love Steam because it keeps all my games in a nice collection, this would be fantastic for DCS. 4.8 I7, 1080, TMW&T, SSD, VKB MK.IV.

I think the activation system remains even on Steam as Starforce is listed as a third party DRM. it would be nice if ED could just rely on Steam and do away with the Starforce activation/deactivation thing but I'd settle for just being able to register my existing keys on Steam for now :pilotfly:

You would think they'd not have extra drm on the steam version. :(

ShuRugal Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 you can manually add the game to steam. From your steam library, click "add game" in the bottom left corner, select "add non steam game" then select "DCS World" and "DCS World Multiplayer" from the list. Once I did this, Steam keeps track of game and in-game interface works.
SkateZilla Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 (edited) Steam is Using the Same Starforce Software for Activation. Which is the only reason that being able to activate on steam with your existing key is even considered possible. If your main reason to go with steam is "DRM" Management, then you're missing the fact that Steam uses the same DRM Software to Activate your modules. (the Same Activation Box will pop up during "1st time Install"). So, IMHO, it's pointless to shift everything to steam only because of DRM if you already Own Licenses purchased Elsewhere. Steam Licenses work on DCSW Standalone, GameFly Licenses as well, and ED Licenses. You can run DCSW Standalone and use Keys from all the sources. Mar044 Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 I don't see this being much of a issue, I support it if you can port your modules to steam, considering ubi, ea etc have separate network logins that run along side steam such as uplay and origin...i don't see a issue with it, the only issue I would make sure is that the network code supports steam/non steam server support, I don't want to have issues playing with someone online and can't because i use non steam and they use steam for match making. steam is the right move on market, more:pilotfly: and more people going :doh:when we shoot them down :p Call Sign -Winter- "The North Never Forgets"

DCS: Black Shark on Steam did not have Starforce and I believe DCS A-10C was the same. I know a decent number of people who want to buy some modules but do not want to support DRM with limited activations. Especially since ED's customer service is not exactly quick or great.
SkateZilla Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 DCS A-10C on Steam used the same DRM as DCSW Modules. BS1 used DRM, Just a Different Setup. fritzisbro Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 (edited) Ive got all the modules working inside steam. 1. download and install dcs world steam version 2. Install your ED version as normal making sure to register the numbers also if you have black shark 2 upgrade install this in the usual way 3. start ED version and update DCS World 4. go into the contents of the Ed version and copy and paste them in their entirety into the relevant steam folder in my case D:\steam\steamApps\common\dcs world. now go to add remove and uninstall the ED version careful not to uninstall the steam version recognizable in the list as DCS World Eagle dynamics. (the one to uninstall just says DCS World). 5. start steam and play. All modules are recognized and flyable you can update dcs world with the update exe provided in the bin folder. but I have since been told that because you now have a working update.exe that steam runs the update automatically....guess I'll find out when the next update is due Edited August 11, 2013 by fritzisbro
