That's the system we use, Mantis. A public version like theirs could be a nice solution.

I dont know what the final plan will be (the following is purely opinion), at this point I think they will try and do it all on the forums, Testers and Mods will have to clean up duplicate entries and submit reports as warranted. Some ownership will fall on the people making the posts to search for common issues and submitting with all the required info needed (which I hope a guideline will be put out)

I understand the desire for a public bug tracking system, but at the end of the day someone has to clean and link it to the internal tracking system and that sounds like a lot of work. Another point is that many bug reports that come in right now are not report worthy, for instance the crash forums, while there are many requests for help, many of them are solved with basic troubleshooting. Others are unreproducible and cannot be reported as such. So there is a lot more to it, I think with better moderation of the bugs & problems section, more communication and ownership on all sides it can work through the forums.

I guess here in my interest it was just to be able to check (readonly) and then if not there post in the forums as usual. Like generate a "subject" list from the database to publish on the forum viewable when logged in. But i guess its kind of confidential or other aspect which makes it difficult to do.
