Hi all

My new computer arrived at my house today, so as soon as I get home from work I'll be installing DCS World onto it and wiping my old one. I have DCS A10C and FC3 currently installed on my old computer, what is the process of downloading these to my new one with their corresponding keys without having to pay for them again?

Would be nice to have my account data and logbook stats returned as well (not that my kills have been clocked the last few weeks :music_whistling:)

Thanks

Deactivate DCS on old machine

If you have the old installation files available, you can use them to reinstall and then autoupdate to the current version. Otherwise just download them.

Copy the DCS Folder from your old computer C:\Users\<youroldwindowsusername>\Saved Games to C:\Users\<yournewwindowsusername>\Saved Games on the new computer

Start Multiplayer and enter your keys, activate

Do note that deactivation is not technically required to install on the new machine without having to pay again.

Downloads are available from our site even without login; they are always available on http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com

You have 10 activations - these are machine activations - on each license key (if you run out, you will regain the last activation automatically after 30 days). So you are able to download and install directly and then simply activate as normal, if you so desire.

Deactivation allows to re-use the old activation used on the old computer, but is not technically required to get your games running on the new computer.

Well skouras, they answered the question without indicating that the steps were not required to avoid having to re-purchase, wihch the OP asked and is a pretty important thing.

Deactivation is NOT required to avoid re-purchasing. I just wanted to be really sure this was made certain. :)

EtheralN I think Skouras made the comment in support of your statement, not to imply you were repeating previous posts. No harm done :)

Attempting to reinstall DCS world guys, first of the 4 files downloaded fine, but every time I click on the second, a new tab opens with a box saying "The server http://ftp3.files.eagle.ru:21 requires a username and password".

So I enter the details, press Log In and it just reloads the same error box over and over again!

HELP!!!

It's working now, think the Germany server had a glitch or something. Back onto the original issue, I am a bit confused all of a sudden, the ED guy said to just download my existing modules from the DCS site again, but surely as soon as I do I'll get charged as if I were buying for the first time?

Why would that happen? You pay for the activation key not the software you download.

No, what you paid for are 10 activations of the game. A new activation is required after significant changes to the hardware.

When you run out of activations, you will get a new one every 30 days, but only up to one remaining activation at most, so you won't be back to 10 activations after 10 months.

You also have 10 deactivations, which you can use to revoke an activation and get it back.

Therefore you don't have a significant loss when not deactivating, but there is still no reason not to do it.

the ED activation method confused me! because i change hardware too much and it's important for me.

as you said every licence have up to 20 time of activation totally and after that we get new key every 30 days until end of the world.

if i'm correct my questions are:

1.where should we get that every 30 days key ? form ed site or using activation methods?

2.is this just for those who purchased their key from ed site?or for all purchased key?

thanks for reply

You will find a very detailed and pictured instruction/explanation in the QuickStart Guide - you should read it.

Example path for the A-10C module:

Windows Start >> All Programs >> Eagle Dynamics > DCS World > Documentation > A10C QuickStart Guide EN.pdf

or

..\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\aircrafts\A-10C\Doc\A10C QuickStart Guide EN.pdf

1. You don't get a new key - you get the ability to use your key again after you used up all 10 activations.

2. For all - as they use the same Starforce DRM regardless where they have been downloaded.

What I can't understand is when you should use a deactivation and when an activation, because in fact they serve apparently for the same purpose and you have really the equivalent 20 activations. If I buy a new computer I can deactivate in the old computer and activate again in the new one (I'd have 9 deactivations and the same activations) or activate directly in the new computer (I lose one activation but I have 10 deactivations).

I'm in the same boat, got the guts to my new system in the mail currently. (Can't wait to see how she flies!!!) Anyway, I reviewed the documentation file and see that I need to utilize the "dcs protect" deactivation utility. I have Huey, BS2, C.A., A-10 currently. Does the "dcs protect" deactivate all my modules at once or will it give the a choice of which ones? (I need to copy down my BS2 serial # as I cannot seem to find it) Thanks in advance--

There is a separate xxx_protect.exe in each module's bin folder.

The exe for A-10C is in ..\DCS World\Mods\aircrafts\A-10C\bin and named a10_protect.exe
