TimeKilla Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 (edited) Check this video out guys very interesting related to the concept, development and procurement of both helicopters. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=2gUSkIcMIRs#t=2338 Looks like one of the reasons for the Mi-28 winning was it settled for pilot and gunner more viable and accepted rather than single seat. Enjoy. Edited September 7, 2013 by TimeKilla 2 :joystick: YouTube :pilotfly: TimeKilla on Flight Sims over at YouTube.

Hunden Ynk Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 (edited) I got a little disappointed, since I had already seen that video. It's great! The whole series is, especially the episodes about a particular aircraft. Check out the ones on Mi-8, or Mi-24, for more heli-fun. Edit: Now with links. TimeKilla Posted September 7, 2013 Author Posted September 7, 2013 (edited) Thanks everyone, I found it earlier today and like others have said it covers the Mi-8 and there's other episodes that cover Soviet helicopters for the start of time and jet fighters basicly anything military and soviet design. The first episode listing is here and you'll see it's a playlist so you can pick what Eps you'll find interesting. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRPW3IFnQj1zc9AoqeHWz3-c3cpkbY3L5 Edited September 7, 2013 by TimeKilla Grammar. :joystick: YouTube :pilotfly: TimeKilla on Flight Sims over at YouTube.
eurofor Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 The Mi-10K apparently had an all glass cockpit as early as 1966. :D http://youtu.be/2gUSkIcMIRs?t=8m54s [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
gunterlund21 Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 great video. Got me all fired up to get in the shark again. Also got me dreaming about flying the ka-52 and Mi-28 in DCS some day. We can only hope. I was in Art of the Kill D#@ it!!!!
Hunden Ynk Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 Does anyone know if the Ka-52 and Mi-28 are designated for different roles, perhaps with one Ka-52 operating as command post for a group of Mi-28, like the plan originally was for the Ka-50. Or is that outdated cold-war doctrine?

BBQ Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 From what I understand (and by no means am I an authority on the subject), neither the Ka-50 or the Ka-52 were designed for coop type fighting with the Mi-28. The original Ka-52 I think was a sort of "trainer"for the Ka-50 pilots, and not a whole lot of Ka-50's were actually produced - in main part due to the extreme high-demand on the lone pilot (task saturation). Ironically, in recent years the Ka-52 has taken the spotlight as an ideal platform for which the Ka-50 was originally designed -- since the lone pilot demand problem obviously becomes a non-issue with the Ka-52. I know I've read about plenty of "orders" for the Ka-52 from other countries -- but not sure if they have actually been producing them and shipping them out, or if they (former Soviet Union) are producing them for their own military. I recall seeing this list of orders on a reputable website -- perhaps the RAND website? I don't remember -- but if anyone can chime in with updated information, that would be great! The Ka-50 is my all-time favorite aircraft, helo or fixed. I hope it gets a proper "tour" of duty whether it be in the form of the Ka-50 or the Ka-52.
XtraChrisP Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 A really cool video! Thanks for sharing :)
Hunden Ynk Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 The Ka-52 seems to be doing pretty good, so you'll be happy BBQ. This site http://lenta.ru/news/2012/03/13/ka521/ claims that 140 Ka-52 has been ordered by Russia, I have no idea if that includes the Ka-52k for the navy as well. And there's rumors that Iraq has signed the contract. Justo©, are you sure it wasn't the remaining Ka-50 that had been transferred to special operations work?

Hunden Ynk Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 Oh, one more thing. If anybody has not read this little article, I can strongly recommend it. It's about the Ka-50 operation in Chechnya, and why the project was canceled. The author leans towards the political: Much more ominously, the Air Forces Command under the influence of various factors was clearly loosing interest in the "Black Shark". The very existence of the BUG stood in the way of the realization of the concept for a common new generation attack helicopter, which the Mil Bureau and Rosvertol plant had promised to develop.MILTECH_9-2005_Ka-50_in_Chechnya.pdf
