Super, your explanation is perfect and I've well understand.

But for the moment I prefer the first version of 5.16.

Tanks again and best regards, Skull.

The greatest thing for me about this fantastic mod is that the ocean seems a much deeper blue now, or am I imagining things?

Yes i included an modified waterEffect.fx shader several revisions ago which makes the oceans a deeper blue.

Hello Marioshata,

Super I would like to thank you for your explanation and thanks for your comparison screenshots but I prefer the main v5.16.

If you watch these two screenshots, the ground is dark because the weather is bad, when we have this dark ground without shadows and sun it's because the clouds are loud and many.

I found this first screenshot more realist because there's many clouds and it's normal to have one dark ground.

In your second screenshot I think that the clouds are not enough present and for me this scene is strange because the ground is dark and not many clouds in the sky, maybe one simple summer day for the sky and clouds and one rainy day for the ground.

PRjNSsi.jpg

When I want the same result than you I add many clouds and with the main version 5.16 this Mod is perfect because the clouds are more beautiful and present.

It's just my idea, I hope that Mustang will be make two versions, one loud version and one simple version because I need this loud version like v5.16.

For me no problem with the FPS with v5.16 ^^

Marioshata, please can you explain to me how you can have the seem screenshots but without the same weather ?

Your camera is always the same place when you compare your screenshot, do you have one tips ?

One more time again I would like to thank you for your explanations and your screenshot it's very perfect for compare the awesome work of Mustang...

Best regards, Skull.

Hey Skull, I too prefer the main v5.16. The weather I used is exactly the same for all screenshots and the ground is dark on those two, because the sun seems behind a cloud at around 4 o'clock camera angle. My tip for comparing game changes fast is:

1. Start editor

2. Make your settings

3. Press "Fly mission"

4. Press F11 for one of the static airport cameras and don't move your mouse

5. Take a screenshot

6. Quit the game to the "Debriefing" ("Fly again") menu

7. Alt+Tab and change the mod (version) with JSGME

8. Alt+Tab and press "Fly again" and do step 4 and 5 again

* in this case no wind is a must or you will have to time your screenshot with the game local time or the clouds won't be at the same place on the screenshots

9. Compare the screenshots taken

Hope this helps!

What I'm more concerned with is FPS drop.

Sadly the first 5.16 version has a significant impact on FPS.

So...while I do prefer it visually I am not willing to pay the price in performance.

Super Marioshata,

I would like to thank you for this explanation, now I well understand your method and it's verry important for me.

It's not the first time that I can see many screenshots like you explain but I did not know the method for obtain this result but now with your kindness it's perfect.

With your last composition we can well understand and watch the big difference between these two Mods 5.16.

Of course I well understand why second v5.16 it's good, there's no impact on FPS but it's unfortunate that the Main v5.16 disappears about one question of FPS, sometime the quality have one price and for my DCS I add all the Mods who can render more beautiful this awesome simulator (land, sky, light, cockpit, skins, ect), maybe because before to have DCS I've spent years with FSX and because with all my addons FSX was awesome.

With the talent of artists like Mustand and of course other members of this community DCSW is better than never.

With all these Mods it's a real pleasure to fly for many hours, DCS is a great simulator...

Polaris you know I've well understand your explanation but the chose it's not easy to do, FPS versus quality, it's a real dilem...

One thing that I'm sure, our PC are not immortals and each time that we buy one new PC this new machine is better and it's perfect for our FPS.

PS: I'm very sorry for my poor English...

Thanks again. Skull

Been experimenting stretching the X axis of the cloud imposter shader renderbox, some interesting results albeit a tiny bit glitchy at times - however i really like how the clouds spread out more instead of tidy little cumulus clouds :)

the worst problem of all with this is with the actual cloud shader itself (cldDraw.fx) this controls the cloud texture that is nearest to the camera/player, as you approach a cloud it reverts back to normal size - i have to try to figure out a way to make all clouds the same scale, and thats proving a challenge.

About your explanation please can you tell me if it's the v5.17 or one Mod not release ?

EDIT: With this new version 5.17 do you use the "Normal Mod" or your "light Mod" ?

Once again a great thanks again, Skull.

No 5.17 has normal looking clouds just with some very slight adjustments to luminance (i mention this in the updated 1st post)

the screenshots above with the longer clouds were just from an experiment, i will not release this until i can fix the bugs with making clouds larger.

Hello Mustang,

Super for your answer, now it's clear.

I go download this new version and test it, thanks again and good night, Skull.

Another slightly offtopic question but I noticed when you switch to 3rd person mode and zoom out at a reasonably fast rate, you can see the clouds "twitching" which is they turn/move slightly in one direction then snap back, based on how fast you are zooming.

Is this due to low-resolution clouds or is there a camera math error involved?

(Push F2, look straight down at plane, zoom out continuously at a regular rate to experience this...)

Small update in first post, v5.18 has re-edited cirrus.fx shader which improves on overall lighting and colours - reduced parameter fade from 1 to 0.3 (70% reduction of intensity)

the cloud twitching has been a problem for many years now, even since LOMAC/FC1 days, i don't think it's fixable sorry.

v5.20 has just been uploaded in first post, i am experimenting with making all overall clouds sizes slightly larger than default, there might be some minor clipping problems (i am working towards finding a fix for this)

Before and after quick example via animated GIF, stock size versus edited 15% larger - in game you will notice the size difference more.

Hello Mustang,

I think that this new clouds size is better that the original, it's not easy to have the good clouds.

For the moment I work to my job but when I come back to my home I will test this new version.

Once again congratulation for your awesome and great mod.

Thanks again, Skull.

Thanks Mustang for your work and efforts!

I personally don't see why you changed to bigger clouds, since it's a disadvantage flying against a guy who doesn't have all this larger obstructions...

Sizing in a game is a major element that can be considered cheating (imagine we fly in a storm but I have really small clouds compared to you, I get better visibility than you, or bigger resized planes....)

Tuning the shaders is great, but risizing them makes our game critically different, and I believe this should be avoided.

Thanks again.

@Ron,

I think we should let Mustang just do what he is good in. Finding those beautiful sky's with wonderful looking clouds regardless of size or other reasonable 'restrictions'.

Many of us are just enjoying Mustangs' settings in any flight instead of being in multiplayer combat. The mods are optional, and you can always revert back if it's installed on your side.

If it's needed, the server integrity checks should cover 'cheating issues'. If it's not then there is an issue.

I personally like the new clouds. They do exactly what Mustang said they would, which is break up the pattern of repeating clouds.

Thanks Mustang! Keep em coming!
