JG13 Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Hi all, I'm getting really excited about DCS WWII so I have been flying the P51 Mustang, I'm using Freetrack and it's working ok but I can't help notice that it's not very smooth. I'm thinking there's got to be a setting somewhere in some file that I can tweak but I'm not having much luck, my setup works great in IL2 1946, Clod, ROF, and I seem to remember it working better in the past but not now. When panning I get a distinct stutter like a drop in fps but framerate is good and ps3 eye cam framerate is steady, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
GGTharos Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Smooth tracking depends on many factors: 1) The camera you are using (TIR is smooth because that camera has high res and is FAST, high FPS) 2) The software you are using. (If it takes a lot of CPU cycles, and your game takes a lot of CPU cycles, you won't get smooth tracking. If the interface between that software and the game is not the greatest, again you might not get smooth tracking) 3) How powerful your PC is, affects #2 obviously 4) Environmental issues that have to do with lighting etc, but you have probably dealt with those before. Harrysound Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Hi I used Freetrack for a year before getting Track ir a month or so ago. I noticed a massive jump in FPS when switching to track ir. Freetrack is 32-bit, old and not supported anymore and it bogs down the 64-bit DCS World we all play in now.
JG13 Posted September 12, 2013 Author Posted September 12, 2013 Thanks for the fast replies, maybe cpu cycles, it's just strange because it's so smooth in other games and I remember it being smoother in DCS, when I updated to the new patch freetrack stopped working till I moved the "headtracker DLL" directly into Bin folder, maybe I need a new DLL file? I have i5 2500k OC 4.5ghz, gtx670 2 gb, 8 gb ram, win7 64
Tetra Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 I strongly suggest you drop Freetrack and try FaceTrackNoIR with the point tracker option. I used Freetrack for ages and although it worked fine it never felt satisfactory. I have a similar setup to you, PS3Eye and FreeTrackNoIR with a trackclip pro. It is incredibly smooth with a little bit of tweaking. If you want to try it I can send you my profile. Freetrack has not been updated for ages, FreeTrackNoIR is still in development and even has it's own TrackIR protocol. My Mods: Radar Warning Receiver Audio Expansion G-Breath Sound Mod
GGTharos Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 I just looked at the Freetrack website, and like Tetra, I also suggest your drop Freetrack. Last update was November 2008. It's on its last legs and it's more worth your time to try newer solutions IMHO, than freetrack. Your system is powerful enough, so nothing to worry about there. Are there any files that need to be overwritten in the DCS directories in order to make it work with DCS? I'm still using freetrack, but interested in trying out how smooth FaceTrackNoIR is. My current setup is not too bad and pretty smooth. But when compared to someone using TrackIR, I start to drool. 314-я смешанная авиационная дивизия 314th Mixed Aviation Division: The "Fighting Lemmings"- Forums: http://314thsquadron.enjin.com/ - ED Forum Group: http://forums.eagle.ru/group.php?groupid=119
JG13 Posted September 12, 2013 Author Posted September 12, 2013 Thanks guys, just downloaded and tweaked alittle and already it's smoother, now I just need to do the patches. Thanks Tetra, that would be great if you could send me that profile:beer:
Fishbreath Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Has anyone done a Wii remote plugin for FacetrackNoIR yet? That's the biggest reason to stick to Freetrack for me. Just extract the A10.ini to INSTALLPATH\Abbequerque Inc\FaceTrackNoIR\Settings\ I use a modified Accela filter curve as well as tweaked axis curves. Smoothing set to 1 sample and obviously with pointTracker as my tracking source. Protocol FreeTrack 2.0. Works absolutely great for me. Nope it works right "out the box" so to speak. The FtNIR FreeTrack 2.0 protocol does not need any modified dll's like FreeTrack does. There are a few setting you need to tweak though. Mine are listed below. A10.rar Edited September 12, 2013 by Tetra My Mods: Radar Warning Receiver Audio Expansion G-Breath Sound Mod
zaelu Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 I'm still using freetrack, but interested in trying out how smooth FaceTrackNoIR is. My current setup is not too bad and pretty smooth. But when compared to someone using TrackIR, I start to drool. I'm using freetrack andI have nothing to complain but a friend of mine has TIR and he can't do a startup with clickable cockpit. I think it depends from user to user. Freetrack with a PS3 Eye SH camera (usually 10 Euros) just rocks. KLR Rico Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 I'm using freetrack andI have nothing to complain Same here. To me, the fact that it's not being updated isn't important because it's already perfected. :D It doesn't matter much anyways, because as soon as the rift comes out my freetrack rig will be obsolete. :pilotfly: i5-4670K@4.5GHz / 16 GB RAM / SSD / GTX1080 Rift CV1 / G-seat / modded FFB HOTAS
zaelu Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 A funny thing is that some uses Oculus with a free headtracking solution. Outerra devs are doing so... it seems Oculus Rift head tracking is improved this way. I am looking at using the Wii-Remote/Glove Combo to make my 3 screens touch screen. try a touch screen overlay - i got a cheap one from aliexpress.com and it works as you'd expect - its not quite as good as something like a tablet where the display is the touchscreen, but for pushing buttons in a cockpit works perfectly. You just strap it to your screen (it comes with the straps) and plug in the USB cord and you're ready to go. Sponsored by: http://www.ozpc.com.au
number3 Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Downloaded FaceTrackNoIR using the pointTracker plug-in and it works quite well. I find that the head movement is a bit smoother than I was able to achieve with FreeTrack.
