RIPTIDE Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 How on earth does it get shot in Turkey and the resultant ball of flames land up in Syria? Über-SLAMRAAM? It doesn't. Turkey violated Syrian airspace to shoot it down. That's the implied message. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
eurofor Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Imagine the altitude it must have had to fall like that while covering at least 2km to land inside Syria. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
csper Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 (edited) Mi-17 was shot in Turkey airspace then crashed in Syria. Here is the radar records. 159th_Viper Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 As evident from the above footage (parachute), it's clear one of the Pilots survived. RIPTIDE Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 As evident from the above footage (parachute), it's clear one of the Pilots survived. Anybody know what missile was used to down the Helo? Sidewinder? I watched the PressTV news release on this. As much as I treat that news service with caution, they did say there was some reports of maybe 2 pilots leaving, but the whereabouts of one was unknown. Was all very sketchy. PS: Do the Belsimtek Mi-17 allow parachuted ejections? :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
countto10 Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 As evident from the above footage (parachute), it's clear one of the Pilots survived. Anybody know what missile was used to down the Helo? Sidewinder? Cannon surely? Waste of a missile.
159th_Viper Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Cannon surely? Too risky. Closure rate coupled with proximity to border would have negated a cannon engagement. Missile was 100% guaranteed to send the message they were intent on sending. Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Click me to commence your Journey of Pillage and Plunder! Pilotasso Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 (edited) A proximity detonation would allow the pilots to jump, a hit with the vulcan 20mm cannon would probably mean hundreds of bullets in random scatter pattern likely to hit the pilots. IF the pilots did survive they are very lucky! Edited September 17, 2013 by Pilotasso .
Vekkinho Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 I must admit that wreck falling from the sky was pretty high when it got hit... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Vekkinho Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Rigth thx for correction NP! ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
zehir Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 As evident from the above footage (parachute), it's clear one of the Pilots survived. Anybody know what missile was used to down the Helo? Sidewinder? Yes, the missile was sidewinder and hit the tail rotor.
TimeKilla Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 (edited) Horrific footage shows Syrian helicopter pilot who was 'shot down by Turkish forces and then beheaded by rebels' Not so lucky, felt it was best to share this. More to the point sounds like they might have already been wearing parachutes never heard of anyone else surviving and bailing out of a helicopter crazy. el0375 Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 On liveleak there are videos of the falling fireball, of the crash site( with people yelling you know what) and of at least one parachute deployed. Sad news for the pilot is that apparently he got captured, and beheaded and paraded... ( according to those liveleak videos, which are obviously of graphic nature so i wont post them). still surprised he managed to get out of the heli, but only to slowly fall down to his death
Vekkinho Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 You all seem to miss a fact that Mi-17 is a transport helicopter so the 'chutist is not necessarilly the piilot himself... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
