W8 System clock

Ok, i just got some new hardware and i have the wierdest issue i've seen so far on PC hardware.

 

The clock is going slower then it should.

 

For example, at 1400hrs i set it to 1400 hrs.

Its now 1440 and system clock is indicating 1428

 

Meaning its 12 minutes behind???? WTH?

 

As said new system hardware specs;

Hasswell 4770

Kingston HyperX RAM 16GB

ASUS Z87A motherboard

Samsung 840 SSD's

One 128 GB Pro and One 256GB Evo

 

And i also got my old Radeon 6950 GFX card installed

 

All running a 2 day old installation of Win8 64 Bit fully updated, including all the drivers.

 

Any idea's?

 

Oh, and there's another time related issue, when i shut down the system and shut off the power as well. (like disconnected from the power socket)

And i turn the computer back on, system time is still at the time it was when i shut it down?????

Check onboard battery.

Did you overclock your CPU? There are some issues with W8 and OC CPUs.

Sounds like a dead or dying cmos battery on your mobo, that would explain why its still at the same time when you power up again

Agreed. If that is a new mobo, then I would send it back, otherwise replace the battery.

For me it sounds like you using incorrect reference clock.

You set to 1400, than windows ask time server for update, than you got correct time )

I would say the CMOS battery aswel.

 

Had the same thing happen to me a few yrs back, 30 day license lasted a good few months before I figured it out..

Its a brand new mobo. So kind of strange the CMOS battery would be flat.

 

Ill send the store an e-mail about the issue and buy a new battery as well.

Don't think its worth it to send an mobo away over a 2 $ part that's easily replaced.

Upon further consideration, I probably would replace the battery as well. When I posted before I had not processed the fact that you would have to pull your chip (which for me would me pulling the cooler, and then cleaning and reapplying thermal paste, and I hate redoing that) and other parts.

Windows 8 does have quite a nasty problem with the Real Time Clock, maybe related

Thank's for the tips everyone. And now you mention it i had read about that issue a while ago whit the W8 clock.

Nothing about a fix though.......

 

Anyway, seems my issue is resolved WITHOUT replacing the battery.

 

When i took it out i noticed the under side being quite dull and had some small discolored places as well. (blue/greenish)

 

Took a piece of cloth whit some Isopropyl Alcohol, wiped the battery down and installed at again.

 

Set the clock to the correct time and shut down the system and disconnected the power lead of the PSU from the wall socket.

 

After a goods night sleep i booted the system up again, and the time was spot on.

 

Now, what that contamination on the underside of the battery was i have no idea, but simply cleaning it seems to have solved the problem.

 

Ill make sure to update this thread if it comes back though.

Good you could fix your problem. I would replace the battery though, before it dies and you got battery acid all over your mainboard. You never know.
