Can someone explain to me Mustang navigation and use of the radio compass indicator, please, because there is nothing in the manual about it.

I would like if someone made a (YouTube) video tutorial with narration (or subtitles) showing the flight controls, and parameters to perform basic aerobatic maneuvers: loop, barrel roll, split-S, etc.. joystick.gif But this, so far, no one has done. THX

No Radio navigation is modelled in the DCS P51D. There is a Detrola control box but it and navigation info from it are not modelled. Navigation in the p51D is straight out Heading Time and airspeed :)

Yeah.. I've read somewhere that DCS: Europe 1944 can bring this radio navigation to work.

And that would be SO AWESOME :D to use really old fashioned radio aids like Lorentz beam :).

I remember when sex was safe and flying was dangerous.

All that but why does the needle not point North? I'm sitting on RWY31 in Batumi, the gyro shows 306 and the compass needle points about 40 degrees off to my left? What is wrong here?

Thanks,

Sabre.

You must be flying straight and level to read accurate compass needle.

On ground just use the other gyro compass.

Are you sure that you didn't mix up gyro with compass? I would say, that you take compass for gyro and vice versa, because otherwise it doesn't make sense :). Runway number is rounded up magnetic heading - in that way 306 becomes 31(0).

If you have low vaccum suction (i.e. low rpm when taxing), or just after some turns, your gyro will get out of sync. From time to time you need to correct gyro heading and set it to compass heading in still, steady flight.

It is good habit to check if gyro is set correctly just before take off.

Nah, nothing of that kind, start reading from page 3 there's the correct answer:

PS: and 1 post above yours by Fifi, was right too.

Hmmm thanks for this link. Good to know this difference from the real world. So no magnetic RWY headings and no gyro drift :(. That could be improved... Even in good oldie FSX you have this effect.

But still, your gyro will get out of sync with low vaccum sucction - I know it is modeled in this sim.

I really wonder how the real Mustang compass and gyro performed. I have yet to read any pilot accounts of it's behavior. The manual is very specific but that does not guarantee that it describes the actual implementation. It would be great to find out.
