Hi Guys!

I have a pretty old PC which runs BS1 ok, but BS2, Huey, Mi 8 are too much for it. I want to configure a new PC system which will run smoothly the above mentioned sims. I want to play those at 1900X1200 res.

Please any suggestion about CPU, video card, motherboard card, in order to have a good system?

For the CPU my budget is 150-170 euros, for video card is 200-250 euros. Also which CPU is better for DCS? Intel or AMD? a 2core and higher Mhz or a 4 core and lower Mhz to stay in budget?

For video cards Nvidia chipset or AMD chipset? which producer?

Thank you very much for your time and suggestions!

P.S. please send your suggestions based on yours PC system, not from what somebody told you about it.

AMD lost the CPU race. So Intel all the way, I7 or even I5... is all about your budget.

For the GPU it seems Nvidia is more stable within DCS. I personally recomend as producer Gainward. Buy the most powerfull you can afford, and you can take in consideration the SLI solution when the EDGE engine will be here.

RAM as much as posible but not least than 8Gb... and of course.. SSD is mandatory. Good luck!

PS: it is based on my recent reserches which ends into a PC in August this year.

You must be careful about Palit/gainward cards - stock coolers on them is totally inefficient, you'll have to change it. Maybe it is best to look at ASUS with nonreference coolers. Based on my personal experience.

What is your total budget, because you need a bit more then only CPU and GPU?

Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Monitors: LG 27GL850-B27 2560x1440 + Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200, HOTAS: Warthog with Virpil WarBRD base, MFG Crosswind pedals, TrackIR4, Rift-S, Elgato Streamdeck XL.

Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

AMD Lost the I.P.C. Battle,

However, AMDs Architecture is better suited for Parallelism and performs better than Intel in situations where several Multi-threaded programs are running at the same time.

AMD Won Battles that wont pay off for another 3 or 4 years. AMD's APU's are simply in a class by themselves.

There's a Reason both MS and Sony Chose the AMD APU Path for their consoles.

That being said, only a handful of games actually use more than say 3 cores.

So Intel with a Higher IPC and Single Core/Thread Performance is still recommended for Gaming.

However,

I can do Stuff on my FX-8 Core and Operton 16-Core that will make your jaw drop to the floor.

Stuff that simply cant be done on a 4 Core Hyperthreading CPU.

Even though I'm an AMD Fanboy (and AMD Sponsored Pro Gamer).

For DCS, I Recommend a Intel CPU Paired with an nVidia GPU.

In the History of DCS World, and DCSA-10C/Blackshark,

DCS Favors The Higher IPC on Intel CPUs from the iSeries (all Generations).

DCS Also Favors nVidia GPUs (Or maybe their drivers, lol) over AMD.

AMD is usually Cheaper/Better Performance Per Dollar.

But if your only expectation is to play DCS, Intel/nVidia Combo will give you the best results in DCS in it's Current form.

Whether or not the EDGE engine changes this is another story.

However if you want to go AMD:

I'd Push at least an AMD FX-6 Core PILEDRIVER CPU, 16 GB of Ram (2x8GB), and at least a 7950.

AMD 7950s are Dropping to Sub $200 on Specials now that the R9's are coming out.

I can Run DCSW Across 3 Screens on a Single Overclocked 7950 w/ Minimal Problems. (once set up correctly).

I am fully agree with you regarding AMD vs Intel. APU's however is a bit another area. I think that Intel and AMD just split their marketshare so that each of them are doing the jobs best (hopefully).

Since 2006 I own various Gainwards boards and none of them issue any problem either physical nor software. Currently I have 770 GTX Phantom with 4GB ram which runs extremely smooth. My previous one (4 years old), an Gainward 275 GTX is still running on an AMD X2 platform in SLI pair with an Gigabite 275 GTX... and they are running very stable.

To go to subject, I am running DCS in 1920x1080 single monitor , details set to maximum in game and Nvidia general settings set to Quality with 30-60 FPS in single player and 20-40 FPS in multiplayer. My configuration is:

Asus Sabertooth Z87

Intel Haswell 4770k

16Gb RAM

SSD 240 GB

Gainward Nvidia 770 GTX Phantom - 4Gb ... just 1 for the moment :)

Power Supply 900W

... NO overclock... yet !
