thinkr Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 Why don't we have training missions for UH-1H instead of having to watch videos for the sim? Nevermind just updated and now I see them Thank You~!!! thinkr Posted November 17, 2013 Author Posted November 17, 2013 (edited) First let me say thank you for your hard work on creating the training files. Please don't get me wrong this is not a rant only an opinion. I think I speak for a lot of people when I say, it would be nice to have the voice actor that did the A10C replicate the UH-1H training missions. Sorry but I can't stand hearing what sounds like a sick teenage boy with a cold how to fly a large complex piece of machinery. It just doesn't feel right. I don't get excited about it like I was in the days of Longbow 2. I was actually disappointed. Not to mention in some spots in the voice acting, it sounds like narrator was hitting a growth spurt. But I still very much appreciate the hard work you put in. If the narrator is older than a teenager, I'm sorry it just sounds like it to me. I hope not to offend anyone. Yurgon Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 I think I speak for a lot of people when I say, it would be nice to have the voice actor that did the A10C replicate the UH-1H training missions. You wouldn't speak for me in that case. ;) I prefer the voice from the UH-1 trainings over the voice from the A-10 ones. Among other things the pronunciation is clearer, he talks slower and makes an audible pause between sentences so that the Huey trainings are much easier to understand IMO. From a technical point of view, I think these are done much better than the A-10 voice overs. Regarding the perception of the voice itself, that's of course highly subjective and I don't have a problem with either voice.

blksolo Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 I agree thickr, they should use the voice actor from DCS-A10 for every module!! He sounds just like Lt. EvilBivol-1 Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 (edited) Although this may not be obvious, the training voiceover is actually a difficult issue to manage. Training missions are an evolving project, especially while the module is in development. So we need actors who are able to go back and re-record pieces of lessons that they had already recorded earlier or maybe record new ones. This makes it a difficult and expensive job to contract. Luckily we had a willing fan (and a good friend of mine) who volunteered for the instructor voices on the A-10C and P-51D. The sheer number of hours those projects required is no longer something he has available, at least not for free, so as a test run I did the UH-1 instructor voiceovers myself. Don't worry, I'm not offended. I find it highly irritating to hear my own voice, so I completely sympathize. :) Probably making it worse is that I had cut down and amplified my recordings in an attempt to get more of an "intercom" sound. For the final versions, I will probably use natural voice recordings and not mess with the audio settings, which is how we did the A-10C and P-51D lessons. We are working on a number of additional training lessons for the final Huey release. I am open to suggestions on how to improve the voiceover. If you think you may be a good candidate for the instructor voice or if you know somebody else, please let us know. Although we may contract this job out eventually, for now we are still relying on volunteers for our VO work. Keep in mind the amount of time and flexibility needed to record (and sometimes re-record) entire pages of material. Edited November 18, 2013 by EvilBivol-1 - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. That's good news  I am open to suggestions on how to improve the voiceover. As far as the voice doesn't speak too fast, is clear using simple words and with no heavy accent, it's perfect for us non English natives ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
