Flogger23m Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Hello, I am wondering if I were to buy a copy of DCS: Mi-8 off of Steam, would I be able to plug the CD key into my non-Steam install of DCS World? While I am asking this question, can my DCS P-51 and UH-1 modules (bought from ED's website) be plugged into Steam? I have successfully added Blackshark 2, but P-51 and UH-1 do not seem to activate on Steam.

cichlidfan Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 The answer is yes to both sides of the question. The only gotcha is that it takes ED as much as a month to send Steam an updated list of valid (sold keys) which means that your ED purchased key might not be recognized by Steam right away. Steam keys on a non-Steam install should be no problem since ED issued those keys to Steam. Steam keys on a non-Steam install should be no problem since ED issued those keys to Steam. Licenses Purchased from Steam or Gamefly will work Immediately with the ED Standalone DCSW. The Keys you get from Steam/GF Come from ED, So they are already Valid Licenses in the Starforce Database. The Serial Number is Live and Valid to Activate on Starforce the Minute you purchase it. The Delay with Steam is they have to merge the Keys into their Database, Yes they use The same Starforce Activation Method, but they also use License Key-DLC Management System to Manage Licenses/Content. When You paste a Key as a Activate non Steam Game on Steam, Steam has to See that Serial and Know what Product that it is Linked to and what to download from Steam. It's not just activating via Starforce. Flogger23m Posted November 21, 2013 Author Posted November 21, 2013 Thanks for the replies. About P-51 and UH-1, I have added them a couple of months back. They still do not seem to be registered to my Steam account. Do I have to manually send ED an email to send the CD key to Steam?

If you know the keys work on a non-Steam install then it sounds like a problem with the Steam database (odd that it would involve two keys of yours). That being the case, I would open a support ticket with Steam. Tekada Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 (edited) While I cannot speak specifically about the Huey or P-51, I assume they should work the same as follows. I have successfully moved my MI-8 and FC3 (both non steam) to my steam DCS world. All of my modules launch from my Steam DCS world, and I have no issues with multiplayer. All It took was first installing into the stand alone DCS world, then copying the specific module from the /mods/aircraft/(specific aircraft) folder from the stand alone into the Steam DCS. For example: 1. I install FC3 to my stand alone DCSworld: D:/Eagle dynamics/DCSWorld/ 2. I copied from: D:/Eagle dynamics/DCSWorld/Mods/aircrafts the "Flaming Cliffs" folder 3. I then paste the "Flaming Cliffs" folder to: D:/Steam Games/SteamApps/common//DCSWorld//Mods/aircrafts. The only thing you have to be sure is that on ED you have all of the modules associated with the same account. If you do not do this step multiplayer will NOT work. If you are unsure of this you can copy the keys from Steam and use the search on the ED website. This will show what account the modules are associated with, I had an issue with mine but soon figured out that the actual DCSworld was associated with a different account than my other modules. I think when you purchase from steam it automatically creates an account with ED under your steam account name. When I first purchased the MI-8 (in my excitement I did no research) before the steam version was out, I found a second account with my keys for DCS world and A10C which I had purchased on Steam. This can be found using the serial number check on the ED website, under the personal link. I simply unbound the keys from the account that steam created, and bound them to the account that I had created on ED to purchase games. I suppose the easiest thing to do here would be to bind all the keys to your Steam created ED account. That way any future purchases either on Steam or directly from ED will be associated with the one account. Hope this helps -C Edited November 21, 2013 by CSW Wording, additional information
Tekada Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Just did some digging, I may not be correct about steam creating an account for you with ED. I was looking at my account and it appears it is an old account I made many moons ago. Regardless if you have the serials from steam you can bind them to yer ED account. Also for my own edification I wanted to see about the compatibility of Steam purchased modules working in stand alone. I copied my A10C folder from my Steam DCSWorld over to my stand alone install. Works no problem. Again to clarify I did NOT re-download the A10C in the stand alone from I simply copied my Steam downloaded and installed module into the stand alone DCS world and it works.. I do not see any reason why P-51 or Huey would not do the same. -C
Flogger23m Posted November 21, 2013 Author Posted November 21, 2013 Just tried UH-1H, and it worked. Not P-51 though. Perhaps I will try again in a few weeks. Both are associated with my account with the rest of the modules. Another question. As I own FC3, will I be able to get CD keys for DCS Su-25/A-10A for Steam? Entering the FC3 CD key is invalid.

Unfortunately, to use FC aircraft on Steam, you will have to purchase the individual modules. Tekada Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 What is your end state? If it is to just have all the modules in one install of DCS you do not need to get the keys validated in steam to have them work. My only steam valid modules are A10C and Combined Arms. But all of my modules run through either install of DCSWorld. -C

Hope this helps -C When Steam Updates your DCSW, it will only Update Modules in your License Library/DLC List. At least last time I looked that's how it was updating, as my FC3 Folder was never touched by Steam once I moved it over. And still sits at a v1.2.5 while the rest are up to date. You can copy folders back and forth with no problem because the License Key is Active in your Registry for each module regardless of whether it was activated through Steam Auto-Activation or ED's manually Inputted License Key Activation Dialog.
