OK all. Running Huey on Panasonic 4k/60 via Displayport. Just AMAZING but, as expected, my rig can’t handle it. I like to run on close to “max” settings. It’s playable with Instant Action ( 20/40 fps) but Missions (10/25fps) no good.

Don’t have SLI upgrade option on current rig but can go to a single GTX 980. I’m thinking that I will still come up short , particularly with EDGE. So better to just get new build with 2 x GTX 980. Agree???

I also have question bout my pilots head position which is to far back in this new configuration. Please advise if this is the proper thread to ask.

Thank you for any help with this.

quick note.. EDGE will actually make things faster

you'll get more framerates from the same machine when EDGE arrives

Im not so sure.

Edge will look prettier.

It will make more use of your Gfx card in order to make everything look prettier.

Im just not sure if you can make everything look prettier and also have better FPS at the same time.

Prettier is nice.

BTW, ain't takin any chances. Instead of riskin being disappointed with an upgrade to a single GFX 980, I just ordered a new rig to handle the 55' 4k Panasonic.

Went with Intel CoreTi7 4790k 4/4.4 GHz and a pair of GFX 980s.

Thought I would be OK with a higher GHz single core cuz I only run DCS Huey.

Based that on what I've gleaned from the forum. Hope it's right choice.

You get a better FPS because it is using direct x 11 among other optimizations. It means that for with similar settings running like you have now, youll get a better FPS. If you start turning on the new features etc, you might run into problems, but overall you'd probably be able to turn the settings higher than you can now.

Hey Slick

Here's the site and the unit that Kuky turned me on to. yes, it has a display port.

http://shop.panasonic.com/shop/model/TC-58AX800U

Interesting caveat. The unit lists for $3300. I ordered it last nite @ 9pm for $1999. Around 1am this morning I went back to the site just to check on the dimensions of the set. I was surprised to see that the unit was further marked down to $1499. I promptly cancelled My order and repurchased at the new price. As of this moment, I see that the price is back at $1999.

I'm anxious to get it up and running.

you are bloody lucky to get it so much cheaper, unlike me

hey.. you guys with large screens (TVs) --- where do you mount your Track-IR sensor?

mounting it on the top/sides will result in considerable off-axis alignment - resulting in less-than-optimum performance (i would guess)

I've put TrackIR on top of the TV... while TV was on a standard height desk which I used before it was too high and I would lose tracking looking down.

Then I decided to remove the desk and mount the TV lower so that my eyes are looking at about middle of the screen... and with this lower position I don't get TrackIR losing tracking any more when looking down.

Same experience as Kuky. Eye level @ center screen, 3 ft away, sensor mounted on top, no probs.

note: tilt reflector visor upward slightly to avoid limiting down view range of motion.

I'm using a big rear projection screen. I mounted the trackir cam on top of the screen and the vector clip on top of my head phones. See the first two pictures in this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=89624.

Check post #162, there's a link in the quote of his post :)

I'm currently running with an Asus Ultrawide IPS monitor, driven by a single R9 280x. When I update in a year or so, I'll definitely be looking to go with a 55" 4k TV with dual cards.
