Dudester22 Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I currently own a Raptor 10000 HD, but anything that makes this game run smoother is a must for me. So, I'm just wonder if a SSD helps to make the game smoother? I know it allows you to boot to windows quicker ect. But does it actually make game play smoother? If it does what SSD would you recommend because I hear that some SSD cause stutter?
Hawk_5 Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I run mine on an SSD and I would say it does but I have no data to back it up. Its just a subjective observation. HiJack Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I have now a Samsung SSD 840 Pro and I like it. It sure gives a great read/write speed but no FPS gain, but the sim seams smoother. Very useful if you record video of your flight with Fraps as your fps almost stays the same.
Suchacz Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I should definitely shorten the loading times and it can probably remove some stuttering if you are encountering it. But FPS will remain the same. Per aspera ad astra! xaoslaad Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Another one who will echo the sentiment that some of the stutters seem to go away with an SSD. Again nothing concerete to back it up, but if nothing else load times are way way better.
zaelu Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I have 2 SSD (one for OS one for games) and yeah... is smooth (also I5 GTX660 and 8GB of ram helps) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] I5 4670k, 32GB, GTX 1070, Thrustmaster TFRP, G940 Throttle extremely modded with Bodnar 0836X and Bu0836A, Warthog Joystick with F-18 grip, Oculus Rift S - Almost all is made from gifts from friends, the most expensive parts at least
Devrim Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 SSD may not gain FPS, but definitely it help to remain FPS. Especially in multiplayer missions there's a stutter issue on DCS World. After buying a SSD, I'm happy not to encounter freezing issues. But my honest thought is that there's an important problem with DCS engine and this causes many people to buy SSD, although it's not necessary!. ZaltysZ Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 No FPS gain, but very apparent improvement in loading times (it took way too much with HDD). Maybe less stutters here and there, but not too noticeable change for me in this area. I suppose, if you have =<8GB of RAM and around 1GB of VRAM, SSD could be more important as there would be more frequent reads from disk. Wir sehen uns in Walhalla.
Dudester22 Posted December 15, 2013 Author Posted December 15, 2013 The fact is that SSD does increase your average FPS in DCS. Even if it doesn't seem logical at first. In addition, what really gets rid of stutters and slow downs is an add-in PCI/e Sound Card like Sound Blaster X-fi. Disable the on-board Sound Chip in BIOS. Also, low memory timings helps immensely. Something about someone buying a Kingston SSD and he was experiencing stutters. So, what SSD do you recommend? I wouldn't want to encounter what he did so kingston is of my list for a start. Thanks for the replies.
Devrim Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I got Kingston HyperX 120GB SSD. It will be wrong if I say I have "zero" stutter. I encounter sometime, very rare and it doesn't bother. Also upgrading my ancient Q6600 CPU to i5 4670K. 16GB Ram has arrived. The motherboard I purchased is MSI Z87M Gaming which has its own onboard sound processor called 'Audio Boost'. Should I still purchase a separate sound card if MB already has one?
HiJack Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Test the onboard one first. If you use low qulity eadset it don't matter the quality of the soundcard. If you buy surround enabled headset then maybe buy a new soundcard.
