Slap_Chop Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 I Respect how hard you are trying to make everything perfect but that's impossible. At this point in time DCS has become a Helicopter Sim. We have the Black Shark the Huey and the MI-8. The only comparable fixed wing aircraft aircraft are the A10 and P51 Sell something new now. Nevada or whatever doesn't matter. This will ensure your success. You are a great company and you need income . I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy and I've had both. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

mmaruda Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 I think a good idea for ED to make some money with little effort would be to offer printed version of manuals. Currently only Black Shark is available I think.
tobaschi Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 i didnt studied business administration, that's all to high for me :<
EtherealN Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 I think a good idea for ED to make some money with little effort would be to offer printed version of manuals. Currently only Black Shark is available I think. It's actually not money with little effort. It's money upfront, then money for warehousing, then money for handling, then HOPEFULLY you sell reasonably close to the print run you made and don't end up with a couple thousand thick manuals just lying around the hangar... ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
Abburo Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 While I am looking at another marketing/sales phenomenon (read Star Citizen) I only consider ED&Co sale their modules for free :). Romanian Community for DCS World HW Specs: AMD 7900X, 64GB RAM, RTX 4090, HOTAS Virpil, MFG, CLS-E, custom
danilop Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) Well, if the market was there (it's not unfortunately) I have no doubt that ED would come up with half a dozen new DCS fighter modules already. It is easy. Do the ROI calculation, if the market warrants it, hire hundred or so programmers, dozen PHDs and SMEs, pay for blueprints / rights and do it in a year or so. But ... This is niche market, so we have to wait for just right circumstances to get full DCS modules (like some government agency ordering new simulator and agreeing upon commercial release as well). :) Edited January 2, 2014 by danilop
Linx Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Just don't let it be Flaming Cliffs 4. :P Also, new FC planes this year, are better than DCS F-18 in 2015/16. :D
EtherealN Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Well, if the market was there (it's not unfortunately) I have no doubt that ED would come up with half a dozen new DCS fighter modules already. It is easy. Do the ROI calculation, if the market warrants it, hire hundred or so programmers, dozen PHDs and SMEs, pay for blueprints / rights and do it in a year or so. It's a bit more copmlicated than that. Each new hire needs familiarization with the codebase, training in the inhouse standards and practices, toolchain and so on. This means that some existing staff has to take time from "productive" work to train the new hire. So, as might seem paradoxical, hiring a lot of people can actually lead to reduced productivity overall - for a while. Further, you need to find people with the right qualifications; you can't just take any software engineer and set them to work doing AFMs - you want to find people with qualifications in that type of physics (and afford to pay them enough that they don't immediately get snapped up by Boeing, SAAB, MiG etcetera). Similarly, you can't just take anyone with a degree in computer game design and set them to work designing aircraft modules - you want people with those work qualifications AND familiarity with military aircraft systems. Also, SME's are not typically employees by the company since they'll usually be quite specialized. (DCS P-51D is a special case here, since TFC has in-house competence on both the pilot and maintenance/mechanical sides.) Suchacz Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 At this point in time DCS has become a Helicopter Sim. We have the Black Shark the Huey and the MI-8. For me there is nothing wrong with that... :harhar: :D:joystick::prop: Per aspera ad astra! Pilotasso Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 I agree selling something new would be good but what is more urgent right now is consolidation of current titles, without which new planes are of limited impact. Theres 1.2.6 patch and there's public beta 1.2.7, and still no signs of a polished single build that will reunite the community once again. Multiplayer is close to nill ever since FC3 came out due to constant crashes, and I cant even recall when was that any more. .
