Prydain Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 I was wondering if anyone could help me. It has been about two years since I last played DCS regularly. I have had a search around but cannot find any information on new aircraft being produced. Am I missing something or are there really no aircraft projects that ED are working on? It seems almost absurd that the only products available to try out, in a game that's main strength is in fixed wing aircraft, are a couple of helicopters and an out of era prop aircraft so I suspect I am missing something? Cheers.
Cobra847 Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 We are launching our DCS: MiG-21Bis on March the 30th. We're not ED however. ;) Other than that you have 6 flyable fixed wings in Flaming Cliffs 3. The individual modules for the A-10A and SU-25 have been released. The F-15C and SU-27 are next. TimeKilla Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 (edited) The Helicopters are amazing, I don't know anywhere else you can fly truly high fed helicopters. ED have made one KA50 the others are 3rd party. Edited January 4, 2014 by TimeKilla Adding more :joystick: YouTube :pilotfly: TimeKilla on Flight Sims over at YouTube.

Prydain Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 Nothing changes on the PR front then... All of this info is very scrambled but I have had a search of everything you lads have mentioned and I am glad to see DCS not being a dead community. Thanks for pointing me to it all. Also, the MIG-21 looks very nice. If ED are working on a Hornet have they said why it is taking so long? Call me covetous and ignorant if needs be but I'd have at least expected another fast jet by now. There used to be the issue of a lack of documentation for certain aircraft but, I remember that, but after the A-10C I thought DCS would really help the series start making a regular supply of money through aircraft collection sales for ED.
Flogger23m Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 I think it is more important to finish the modules they already sold customer (FC3) and release the new engine before working on new aircraft. The engine is very unoptimized and Edge needs to be done well to ensure a stable platform for future aircraft. And with the F-15C/Su-27 getting an AFM soon, they will be up to DCS level minus the avionics fidelity.
danilop Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 (edited) It is not realistic to expect many DCS quality modules. Simply, there is not enough return of investment. Our community of die-hard simulator enthusiasts is not big enough. That's the reason why Flaming Cliffs franchise is the best seller and biggest money provider for ED. FC quality planes are much easier to learn (and cheaper to develop) and they appeal to much broader audience. We would never see A10c if there was not the previous order for full military simulator (they've got access to original Fairchild blue prints, manuals and all). And we were lucky because customer agreed to the commercial version. So, to cut the long story short - until something out of ordinary happens (like someone grants rights for blueprints, declassify manuals or order full military simulator) we will hardly see new modern DCS quality fixed wing airplane. And there are always 3rd party developers who have their channels through which they acquire material and human resources needed for high quality mod. Edited January 4, 2014 by danilop
Prydain Posted January 5, 2014 Author Posted January 5, 2014 I agree with what you say. I just wonder if getting a selection of purchasable aircraft out the door once a year is a better revenue stream that could also inspire more people to join the community. I am curious as to how many people purchased the Combined Arms package.
AtaliaA1 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 DCSW has opened the door to a bevy of new members to this site with the help of steam marketing team. Like them or not Steam has added a lot to our Beloved Simulator. The Graphics update and the addition of 3rd partners to develop more aircraft is doing well. You picked a good time to return to the Sim. community. DCSW Beta is looking great, Groove ran a server stress test today as a matter of fact. and it was very successful in participation and results for the DCS Team. as they work out the kinks in the multi-player side of the software. 1.2.7 is coming along better than any other release thus far. business model is setting up a stable and profitable future for DCS. kk0425 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Yup. We just need to be patient for a while until ED develops the basic structure of the sim. AFMs are being developed and the core structure of the program is being improved. 32-bit support was dropped recently which should allow for more freedom to develop and the graphical engine is getting released, hopefully sometime this quarter.
blksolo Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I am all for having patience if there is going to be a reward in the future, but I dont think ED will release a new sim until 2015 minimum. Hell we had to beg for a year before they would even entertain the idea of supporting the Oculus Rift. It's been a year and a half since they made the big announcement with the 30 minute video about all the modules for DCS World.Belsimtek are the only ones that have released anything!! Beczl and VEAO will hit the 2 year mark before a release(kept us updated and thank you very much!!),and the rest only God knows when. We dont even have so much as a screenshot from most of these modules almost 2 years later,Razbam etc Intel i7 6700k OC 4.7ghz Asus ROG Maximus VIII Hero Motherboard Zotac GTX980ti 6GB Amp Extreme 32 GB DDR4 3200 RAM Oculus Rift CV1 Thrustmaster Warthog

uscav19d Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 not coming back till 'EDGE' and new terrain is finally released, enough of +7 years old Black sea Crimean/Georgian theater. (i want to see new and updated 3d models of the SU-34, Tu-95 and others too) The theater is fine if you ask me. I've been playing on and off since Flanker 2.0 and at least where we are there is a conceivable war scenario. Can't say the same about Vegas and Nellis. I'd love to see something along the Korean DMZ and the Fudla Gap. Those seem like obvious choices to me
