TraxusIV Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 (edited) So, looking through the 3rd Party project subforums, it occurred to me that the biggest obstacle to bringing new aircraft into DCS is lack of details about avionics, the physical shapes of vehicles, etc, what with so much of modern aircraft being classified. This got me to wondering, "What if someone were to just invent a plane from scratch, without having to worry about matching all the details of one that actually exists?" That led, naturally, to the question of what a gen 6 or 7 fighter might look like. What do you think? What would a 7th generation air superiority fighter, introduced in, say, 2050 look like? What would it's armament look like? How fast would it go? Personally, I'm imagining something of a cross between an F-22, and an F-16, with a single main engine, augmented for hypersonic flight by a pair of scramjets. GGTharos Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 It would look like a modern fighter today probably ... the shape might be a bit different, sure, and perhaps it would run on some form of engine that makes it capable of hypersonic flight. Weapons would be looking a lot like the most modern missile ideas that are out there today ... look at NCADE missile for example. And lazorz. Realistically, by 2050, I expect that weaponized lasers might fit on a heavier fighter or interceptor and function for anti missile purposes.
