ED Team c0ff Posted January 25, 2014 ED Team Posted January 25, 2014 I advise you to file a complaint to BitDefender, so they will fix their program. DCS updater does what any updater will - downloads files from the internet, copies them, starts programs. It does not even touch the registry. Dmitry S. outlawal2 Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 I just downloaded and installed the full release and had no issues. Are you running BitDefender? "Pride is a poor substitute for intelligence." RAMBO
_Tigre_ Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 I just tried again uninstalling Bitdefender, installation of Word 1.2.7 successful. , reinstalled AV , no problem. For those who have this AV you have to uninstall, not just disable it.
ghostmedic171 Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 Just wanted to add - I was having REALLY bad issues with the updater. I'll keep it brief - but any .exes that werent already open when I ran the updater, WONT open after I've started the update (including task manager, command prompt, explorer - nothin) Updater hangs at its update of the updater (lol Updating Myself) - progress bars move... but wait all the hours you want (my time on the clock was a 6+ hour nap), nothing is going to happen. And when I try to close it? Everything will hang, including windows. Then its off to the reset button. Didnt matter if I was updating 1.2.6 or if I was running off a fresh install of 1.2.7 - results were the same. Disabling bitdefender did nothing - and even if I run task manager BEFORE I ran the updater? Well, I could terminate the updater, but the system would still lock up (cant open any additional exe's/eventually I'd be locked) I too have BitDefender total security (Windows 8.1 64 Bit) - otherwise my Rig runs about as smooth as can be. I cant rule out malware - but I havent had a positive case of malware in a long time, usually pretty careful. Not to mention, the updater was working just fine for me as of Wednesday. Anyway as I saw someone elst try - I have BitDefender - and yeah = the updater ran just fine, the first time - now I'm good to go. Anyone know if re-installing bitdefender is going to cause issues? Or now that the updater is updated, are we good to go?
Bourrinopathe Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 Same problem here. The updater failed to update itself when I started the update procedure from 1.2.6 to 1.2.7. I'm stuck with the DCS_updater.exe v2.3.5.45 instead of the latest v2.3.6.47. Windows 8, 64-bit, Eset Smart Security 7 (latest version), fresh DCS World 1.2.7 installed from the server files. Admin rights ON and firewall + AV OFF without any success. DCS World + modules are running fine but I can't DL the training videos (I just suspect it's related). /// ВКБ: GF Pro MkII+MCG Pro/GF MkII+SCG L/Black Mamba MkIII/Gladiator/T-Rudder MkII | X-55 Rhino throttle/Saitek Throttle Quadrant | OpenTrack+UTC /// ZULU +4 /// /// "THE T3ASE": i9 9900K | 64 GB DDR4 | RTX 2080ti OC | 2 TB NVMe SSDs, 1 TB SATA SSD, 12 TB HDDs | Gigabyte DESIGNARE mobo ///

I have been with DCS since BS1. I did a manual update from Start\All Programs\Eagle Dynamics\World It took a couple of hours yesterday afternoon. My auto-updater did not auto-update. Coming on tonight it did an auto-update repair, took about 5 minutes. I did not do the 1.2.7 beta. Edited January 26, 2014 by DieHard [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

If someone could send me the latest DCS_updater.exe I could test if it causes the issue (doesn't update anymore, can't download the training videos). Tone71 Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 The Updater works, these are isolated cases and it is obvious that you are overly protecting yourselves and preventing from using your systems to their full potential.. but go on and keep having frustrating issues and ignore the obvious. We know the updater works and yes these are isolated cases, relating to various anti virus software (I hear Malwarebytes causes this too) but I hardly think having AV installed is "over protecting" yourself. Personally I don't "keep having frustrating issues" caused by AV software. Bourrinopathe Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 (edited) Almost ok! Same problem here. I finally uninstalled everything (except the \Saved Games\DCS folder) and reinstalled DCS World. I tried to update with the shortcut ('run as admin', AV+firewall off) and the updater changed it's version successfully (v2.3.5.45 to v2.3.6.47), but then I obtained a new request to apply the hotfix. I clicked OK/Yes/Do your stuff. And it failed with that error message: 'Couldn't resolve host name'. I have the same message if I try to download the training files (videos/missions) from the DCS UI. I can't download the Huey training missions. I have to notify that I've already downloaded everything without any trouble with my first 1.2.6 a few weeks ago, and with the same antivirus + firewall (Eset Smart Security 7), same rig, etc. It was less cloudy though :D I have plenty to do until it's fixed and beside that updater issue, DCSW+modules 1.2.7 run flawlessly (and what a delight to fly those beasts!). I would have just preferred installing everything while I have some time to manage these things. So I'm just reporting the issue and what I've done. It may be useful to some other user or at least bring some light on that kind of problem. I hope so :) If someone from the ED team comes by, here's what I have when I try to 'repair' DCS: === Log opened UTC 2014-01-27 08:34:25 INFO : DCS_Updater/2.3.6.47 (Windows NT 6.2.9200; Win64; en-US) INFO : cmdline: "E:\[ SIM ]\DCS World\bin\DCS_updater.exe" --apply repair STATUS: Initializing... Bourrinopathe Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 (edited) New updater exe could fell out of the AV whitelist (if you ever put it there) and thus can't reach the servers (seems like most AV/FW vendors believe malware is always hosted in the .ru domain) Thanks for your help. I've tried it the hard way: I completely uninstalled my security suite rebooted the computer uninstalled DCS World + modules re-installed DCS World 1.2.7.23097.351-294 (without any module) started the update process (checking 'run as administrator' for good measure) After a short DCS_updater.exe update and a following message window advising to apply the hotfix, I clicked OK and it went back to : 'Couldn't resolve host name' The DCS_updater.exe version number is now: 2.3.6.47. I had absolutely no problem with 1.2.6 back in december (including downloading the training files) and as far as I can tell, nothing has changed in my OS, network settings or even the hardware. I really can't see what could be wrong on my side. I have no problem updating anything else. My other computer runs Ubuntu, so I can't try to install DCS on that one (without installing the same Windows 8 I have). I currently only miss the Huey training missions (I think) but the updater probably won't update correctly from now on (?). If anyone could send me the latest DCS_updater.exe, I'll still take it  Thanks! [EDIT]: I've sent a ticket to the user support. I had absolutely no problem with 1.2.6 back in december (including downloading the training files) and as far as I can tell, nothing has changed in my OS, network settings or even the hardware. Thank you for such a detailed report. It looks like the problem lies in the DNS-resolver of a 3rd-party library which both DCS itself and Updater are using. The thing has changed between 1.2.6 and 1.2.7. Since it gives no advantages and only possible problems, I reconfigured the library back to using the OS-resolver. The fix will be out soon. In the meantime, try to allow DNS traffic for DCS_updater.exe in your Firewall (technically, you need to allow UDP packets with destination port 53). Dmitry S. Bourrinopathe Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 (edited) I just flushed the DNS with the command. And it allowed me to download the Huey training missions. Thanks! I should have missed the information ED certainly cast somewhere after the server maintenance. Sorry about that. Apparently that was a part of the problem because I couldn't download the FC3 videos just after the Huey training missions ('Servers can't handle your request') (without shutting down the AV+firewall). But I just restarted DCS a few minutes ago and it downloaded the fix, you were talking about, c0ff. I tried to download the FC3 videos again and it worked! Huge thanks to you for fixing the issues swiftly. If I could, I'd upload you a drink right from my tropical island   Great work! That should help a lot of users. zino596 Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 How to use Bitdefender Antivirus 2014, no firewalls , and I have no problem with other programs , downloads ,ecc.... what does that say in English, please?
Revelation Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 As an FYI.... I ran into a different issue... I am running a new install of Win 8.1 with no AV at all installed. First attempt was using the auto updater and I had the soon to be recurring problem. After clicking on the DCS World icon I would get to the initial load screen and the progress bar would get to 10% and then DCS would crash. No crash report can be found giving any details. I could launch the sim using the multiplayer icon - interesting huh? Yes I even tried running the DCS Repair option with no joy. I attempted a clean install after downloading 1.2.7. The same error happened. Keep in mind I had no issues updating and running the DCS Open Beta during this entire time. After several days of trying to figure things out I renamed the DCS folder to Old_Dcs. This is the folder under Saved Games. After renaming that folder I was able to launch DCS without any issue. I have never had to rename that folder ever before. So if someone is running into a similar issue - give that a try. Be sure to just rename the folder so you can recover your logbook. I still have the original DCS folder if ED wants to take a look at the contents to see if they can reproduce the error and possibly locate a fix - just in case it happens to others.
